General question about steel sheet texture

Hi there,

I have a textured steel sheet that I like very much, but I noticed that the texture is noticeably coarser than the one that has apparently been used to print my printer's parts. Are there different kinds of textured sheets?

Cheers
Gert

RE: General question about steel sheet texture

Hi,

Yep. My textured sheet is a 4King sheet. It has a pretty fine texture to it.

There was chatter some time ago that they switched manufacturers of the textured sheets, apparently due to quality control.

Yeah, I have a "thekkiinngg v2" sheet that I imagine is similar to yours(?). (Couldn't wait for the Prusa sheets to become available back then). Unfortunately it seems to be not perfectly even - small prints work fine, but large prints suffer from differing first level thickness, as if the coating on the metal sheet has a varying thickness. It's still nice and I like the texture for some applications, but quality-wise the Prusa sheet that I have is clearly superior.

Regarding the grain of the surface, my printer's original parts seem to be somewhere between my Prusa sheet and the thekkiinngg sheet.

@jsw

I remember that - it sounded like it was quite a pain for Prusa to get a reliable supplier/process.
Would be interesting to know if the printed parts of newer printers have the coarser surface texture too, or if they use different sheets in-house.

Hi,

I  bought mine 2 months ago. I've not had any issue with it and I have printed some larger PETG stuff on it without issue. I suspect a QC issue maybe responsible for your problems. 3rd tier products can be iffy for quality sometimes. I might have just gotten luckier than you.
