Prusa slicer nozzle dia and first layer & PETG

Can't find a prusa slicer document, but many referrals to the slic3r document. Anyway the slic3r document says "it is recommended to raise first layer height to match the diameter of the nozzle ". Prusa slicer does not match this using default settings for the mini .4 noz. Currently set at.2mm.

Is it possible to change the default first layer pattern? I hate the wait to purge then zigzag, only to get to the most critical part at the back of the printer. I would like to create a more functional pattern that draws the box earlier in the flow, or replicate it near the beginning.

Struggling to get PETG to calibrate does anyone have good pictures to share of an acceptable first layer?

thank you

When you say default first layer pattern, what do you mean? From the description, sounds like the built-in calibration pattern with the tiny square at the end. Yes, pretty useless unless you really know what a good 1st layer should look like.

Instead, use this method https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk3s-mk3-assembly-and-first-prints-troubleshooting/life-adjust-z-my-way/

Much easier to get a handle on the proper Live Z value for your printer and sheet. It also has pictures of good and bad first layers.

PETG isn't any different with the exception that it likes to be less squeezed than PLA so your live Z might be a bit less negative. Having said that, in my case I rarely found myself needing to make changes but YMMV.

Please remember that if you change your sheet (eg from smooth to textured), you'll have to redo Live Z. The textured sheet, for example, is much thinner and requires a lower Live Z (about 0.4 lower).

If your question is about the actual first layer of a model,  go to Print Settings, Infill, Bottom fill pattern.

Fuchsr,

Thank you, for decrypting my question, its all about the first layer calibration.  I keep returning to the cal, because I have stringing issues or cold printing (not really sure Wth) and really at a loss as I begin using PETG.  I found this article :Retraction: Just say "No" to oozing | MatterHackers , and I am of the current opinion that the out of the wrapper settings with the slicer are not working well with my mini.   The article makes reference to " Speed: Travel (speed for non-Print moves)", one of the biggest frustrations I have found is the absence of a manual for the prusa slicer. They make reference to the slic3r : https://manual.slic3r.org/intro/overview , but then appear to change their own terminology or names on their own functions, and fail to publish a glossary to correlate the published info. Should I be using Slic3r instead?

"Speed: Travel (speed for non-Print moves)", does prusa slicer have an equivalent to this operational parameter?

pleas humor me, what in the world is "Deretraction" ?

Attached .3mf and print pic, left is top down and right is 180 rotation.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

thanks

You have to Zip it, then you can upload the .zip file.

katrua_Rev_C

Dropped in by "add media" (where "media" in computer speak is normally associated to audio, video, picture, graphics) and "chose file" would be the logical place to upload a program script , text file or in this case . 3mf file.

Regarding Prusaslicer, the manual is at https://help.prusa3d.com/en/category/prusaslicer_204. Pretty extensive. Also, for most (not all though) parameters in Prusaslicer you can click on the parameter name and it will take you to the explanation in the manual.

Of course, PS has the Speed for non-print moves setting. However, it's only visible when you shift to Advanced or Expert mode (upper right corner).

Deretraction is, well, the opposite of retraction. On a retraction, the filament is pulled by back a small amount, on a deretraction it's moved back to the previous extruder position.

Stringing: Some stringing with PETG is normal, the heat gun is your friend.  Also, lots of good tips here:

https://projects.ttlexceeded.com/3dprinting_techniques_calibrating_filament.html

Looking at the 3mf, this thing is going to be hell to print. So many overhangs that require supports, which will be hard to remove. Optimized support settings I would recommend:

0.25mm z distance
75% xy distance
3mm support spacing
4 interface layers
0.2mm interface layer spacing

I was looking at this model in all orientation but it beats me. No idea which orientation will give you the best results. This would be a good model to print with soluble supports using the MMU2.

@fuchsr

Funny, it prints in pla, so I’m not there with petg. You have given me some homework, let me go peruse that a wee bit. Interested in the manual link first. Thank you sir! Then I will apply your recommended settings.
