Pausing overnight

I have read the various techniques involved, and will probably go with the SD card method.  What I don't understand is what the bed temperature has to do with anything.  Once the first layers are down and adhering, does the bed temperature matter at all?  I'm likely to have eight or more hours of printing before pausing, and expect to be a third of the way up a 2-inch print on the first pause.  The whole print is going to need 24 hours.

Print quality is not critical here.  Are there alternative parameters that would reduce the print time?

RE: Pausing overnight

Hi again,

I think your assumptions are correct for most PLAs and PETG. But there are materials which will lose adhesion when the print bed is no longer  heated.

Parameters affecting print time are, of course, nozzle size and layer height in the first place. And you can always turn up your printer's overall speed by just turning the main dailing knob clockwise. (within reasonable limits, of course)

Thanks.  I'm using PLA.  One of the replies cautioned against re-heating the bed because the thermal expansion might cause the existing print to lose adhesion.

One of the great features of the satin sheet is that models just pop off when it cools down. Obviously, that's the opposite of what you want... In general I think it's a bad idea to pause a print and let the bed cool down.

I don't know what Printer, brand or bed type your using, but in general I agree with fuchsr.

If however this is something you have to do, you might try printing on Blue tape Or Kapton tape, one other method that can be successful is to print with a large brim and literally tape the brim to the bed (carefully, with Blue tape) after pausing.

Sufficed to say you will probably not see your best results, but it can be done.

Good Luck

Given this is the Prusa forum, the brand should be obvious.  The model is an MK3.

Given this is the Prusa forum, the brand should be obvious.

Just to clarify, that is not the case.

PrusaSlicer supports many Printers. Folks with printers of all types come here to asked questions, and it seems more often then should be, that new and new-ish users of the forum are posting all over. As well we are seeing seasoned users from other sections of the forum e.g. the MMU section the Mk2.5 section and so on posting in any area of the forum that seems active to them, probably because it increases their chance of getting an answer, vs asking in a much less active area.

So the brand, the printer model, the filament type and brand, It's best if that information is given (up front) to get the best advice possible without playing 50 questions, and someone having to accidentally stumble upon the fact that the OP is not using a Prusa, or finding out they are printing with an Older model, or a modified model, or MMU, or min, hopefully your getting the idea.

We even have people posting in the "how do I print this" and "Assembly and first prints troubleshooting" section for the Original Prusa XL a printer that's not available.

So, it's not so obvious, do all you can to help yourself by providing the best information you can to those your asking for help from.

Regards
