Help Identify and Correct My Printing Issue?
I'm new to this. I've had many successful prints, but I am now running into troubles.
Can anyone help me diagnose and recommend changes to stop this? This has been happening on top layers of flat prints.
Has anyone seen this before? Surely someone has. Temperature too high? Nozzle too close?

No its not damp filament. Its simply the part bowing up from the print bed and compressing the top layers in those spots more. If you examine the bottom of the print you should see a difference in those areas too.
As the plastic cools it contracts. This causes inward pull and a tendency for a part to 'bow' upwards. If this force exceeds the bed adhesion it will come loose in those areas. This means layers printed on top of that don't have a full layer height to be printed in causing them to be compressed. This leads to waves and pillowing as you have pictured.
Its remedied by making sure your print bed is absolutely clean and free from all oils/grease and by making sure your live z is correctly dialled in to maximise bed adhesion. Beyond that you can reduce the chances of warping by printing in an enclosure/using a draft shield if you don't have an enclosure to reduce temperature differentials. Larger rectangular prints are particularly susceptible to this and its more or less acute depending on the material used to print too.

This all makes total sense to me and seems exactly what the issue is. In examining other pieces I do have an issue with warping. And as you said, larger, flat pieces are more troublesome.
I did initially have trouble with adhesion, but I thought that I fixed the issue. I have spent much time on the x axis and clean the plate regularly. I also switched from a smooth plate to a powder coat which seems to help a lot.
I tried raising the bed temperature as someone else recommended, but that didn't have any affect whatsoever.
I guess alcohol cleaning is the next step. If that doesn't work, then I guess an enclosure is the way to go. I wish they weren't so expensive.

A large cardboard box, makes a viable enclosure, then if it helps, the investment on a better enclosure, is validated...

Saw this allot at work before they got enclosures and one of the reason I purchased an enclosure with the printer. Drafts are common and I want to print with higher temp materials.
