A Pair of Problems
Hello People Who Are Smarter Than Me!
I've been having a pair of problems, and I'm wondering if they might be related. The first is a Clicking sound when a print begins, accompanied by the filament not coming out (it comes out fine when I AutoLoad). As a solution, I have done the Cold Pull technique, which solves the problem for one or two prints, but it returns after trying a large print.
The second problem, which I have never seen before, and which is somewhat amusing, has do with that large print. I have printed it twice before with no issue (except that clicking/no extrusion on subsequent prints), but the last time I printed it, a 1/2 inch layer somehow became offset from the rest of the print (photos below). It continued printing normally after that, until I stopped it, and it seems like such a "clean" offset that I wonder if it's a slicing issue, but I have no real idea.
Do You Wise People think these things might be related? Is there another source that might be causing the clicking? I've used the accupuncture pin to clean out the nozzle and have checked gear alignment, so I think the next step is to take apart the hot end and make sure the nozzle is in the correct position, since doing a cold pull before every print is rather time consuming.
I also apologize in advance if I have made any missteps in forum ettiquette. This is my first post, and I read through guidelines, but it is possible I missed something, so if you'll let me know, I'll correct any mistakes in the future. Thank you all again for your expertise!
Which printer do you have?
This is a MK3 forum so in that context I would clean the Bondtech gears and try adjusting the extruder idler pressure.
Your layer shift might have several causes but if your adhesion is good I would look to your belt tension.
Cheerio,
RE: A Pair of Problems
Thank you so much! Yes, it's the MK3, I'm sorry, I should have included that. I've checked the Bondtech gears, but I will look again, and I'll go carefully over the idler pressure and the belt tension. I really appreciate it!
RE: A Pair of Problems
While your at it: check the grub screw on the Bondtech gear that is mounted on the shaft of the extruder motor. If that gets loos it might cause the clicking noise.
As for the layer shift: something made the x motor loose steps, this usually is a mechanical problem: this is a place to start troubleshooting: https://help.prusa3d.com/article/layer-shifting_2020
