Y axis stepper motor slipping

Hello everyone. I have had my mk3 since june and have never been happier. However i've run into a snag with the printer. Whenever i run a print the y axis stepper motor starts skipping and the print will crash. Thhe belt is tight and the pulleys are fine. The issue seems to be coming directly from the stepper motor, as when it starts skipping the shaft on the motor doesn't even turn. I think it started about 8 prints ago and now has been doing it on every print.I have been printing just fine for the last couple months and haven't changed any setting since this issue started so im kind of at a loss for as to what happened, Any ideas?

Sounds like a motor stall due to excessive friction.

Do a SELF  TEST and report the numbers shown as "BELT TENSION"  (ignore them when it comes to the belt - they are meaningless for that).  But the number do represent friction, or torque required to move the axis. Lower numbers indicate more friction.

Unless you've packed your bearing with grease, Power off, add a few drops of machine oil to the rods each side of the bearings, then move the axis back and forth working the oil into the bearings. Helps to do this on X and Y.

There is also a known issue with one of the recent firmware releases reporting Y crashes.  You might want to try the latest build. Or even the 3.8.0-RC2.

Thank you for your reply. The self test ran ok with it saying everything is ok. The belt numbers are X=261 and Y=281. The prusa slicer has been bugging me to upgrade firmware as i'm still running 3.7.2-2363 on my printer, so maybe i will try upgrading that when i get home and see if it improves anything. Its just weird it popped out of no where when I've been running this firmware for weeks now but i guess it could also be because i haven't lubed my axis since i got it in june. So iguess it could just be time for that. I'll try these things and report back on how they work

If you didn't grease the bearings when installed, and haven't oiled them since... good chance they might be seizing up on fast moves (self test doesn't move at top speeds).
