Nozzle wear on a 0.25mm brass nozzle

Hi, I have started to noticing worse print results from my 0.25mm brass nozzle. I have at a maximum printed 2kg PLA with it since I got it. My print settings are the same but the results seem to show small signs of under extrusion. I have cleaned it by using a lighter to melt away potential dust that could have got inside it (I use filament dust filters). But I'm starting to think that the under extrusion might be a result of nozzle wear.

When I manually extrude filament and measure its diameter the result always says 0.4 or 0.45mm. I have set the software settings on my Mk3s to 0.25mm nozzle.

This is my questions:
1. Does a 0.25 mm brass nozzles wear out allot faster then 0.4mm brass nozzels when printing only PLA?
2. Is it normal for a manually extruded linewidth to be 0.4-0.45mm in diameter when the software settings on the Mk3s are set to a 0.25mm nozzle? Should not the extruded linewidth be 0.25mm?

No PLA should not wear out a brass nozzle quickly, of any diameter.  

If you could save one of your projects (Save As from Prusa Slicer), that will save it as a .3mf file.  The 3mf file will contain a copy of your model but also all of your print, filament and printer settings used for that project.  We can then take a look and make sure all the settings are suitable for a 0.25 nozzle.  

As the forum doesnt accept 3mf files you will need to zip it up into an archive before attaching it here.

I use Simplify3D instead of PrusaSlicer when I use the 0.25mm nozzel. But when I use the standard settings in PrusaSlicer for the 0.25mm nozzle I more or less get the same results. The reason to why I use Simplify3D is because it is allot better on optimizing travle move then PrusaSlicer is at the moment.

Cant help with S3D settings so maybe go ask on a S3D forum if your settings are correct ?  I know for Prusa Slicer that changing the nozzle size under the printer settings is not enough as you also have to set your extrusion widths.  Unless they are set as a % then it might be 'plug and play'.

You might get more help here if you modify the title to reflect that you want help with setting up S3D for a 0.25mm nozzle.  At least that way any of the members here that have that slicer can more easily spot it. 

Probably the best person I can think of is Bobstro as he has the software and he has done lots of work with different nozzle sizes.  You could see if he has any pointers on his website at http://projects.ttlexceeded.com/3d_printing.html

I wouldn't worry about free air extrusions. There is some expansion (die swell) as the hit filament is released. The slicer extrudes based on printed widths, so I'd focus on that. Try calibrating your extrusion width and see if the nozzle will produce lines of the specified width. I've got some notes here

Given the problem described, I'd do some cold pulls to clear the nozzle of build-up and partial clogs.
