Dots in prints on thin layers

Does anyone have any idea what can be causing this?

On layers which are stepping up on Z axis, you get these repeating dots are regular spaced intervals along the X axis. You only see them on the top most layer, and you don't see them if it is a large flat surface, only if it is a stepping layer.

I'm guessing it somehow relates to the extruder gear, but what could cause an issue like that?

I have tried increasing the Extrusion Multiplier to 1.02 and it makes no difference, so I do not believe it is under extrusion.

This is printing PLA.

➡ seems like rubber particles from your x-axis belt: check that the belt doesn't scrape somewhere.

My guess is it is a slicer / object design issue.

- Hold that print up to the light, those are hollow spots, correct? If so then:
- - Does it happen with the batman print?
- - Try increasing the slicer top layer setting from 5 to 8.

🙄 i think you're right david. seems that these are little holes, not particles...
➡ so it's a settings problem with the slicer. first thing i would try is to increase the number of top layers by 2 and maybe the infill (if the layers underneath are to hollow).

Thanks for the suggestions. They are definitely little holes.

They don't occur on top surfaces though, they only occur on areas where you are stepping up the X axis like that.

I'll have a play around with other slicer settings and see if it makes a differences. These are designs I am creating and then exporting direct from Fusion 360. I am importing them into S3D and printing using the latest Prusa i3 MK2 profile from the Configuration wizard.

That surface does not look flat.... slicers will have challenges on the top layers that are curves... like the tree frog print.

The Beta PE Slic3r has a new feature to handle this ( variable layer heights).
