Removing Filament after a runout

I recently left a print overnight, not realizing there was insufficient filament on the spool. When the printer stopped, it requested a filament change, which makes sense. However, the filament did not back up enough to come out of the tube at the feed end - it is inside about ½". How do I remove it?

It is asking me to remove the filament from the sensor....

RE: Removing Filament after a runout

I see I have not been alone. So when it runs out of filament, and wants to "change filament" it does not back out enough filament to grab it and pull it out. About ½" short of coming out.

Rather than fool around with the print head, I decided to print something. Of course it would run through the sensor again. So, I loaded up the next spool, started the print, and force fed the new spool filament into the tube. It is amazing how much printing can be done from what is in that long tube! But finally, I felt a click and knew the filament had passed through the second sensor, and I kept pressure on it for another 6 inches to make sure it was well seated and being handled by the filament feeding system. Worked like a charm.

Unfortunately, the bed and head were heated for several days (weekend) after the spool ran out, before I returned on Monday to find this problem. Well, what the "HEY!" it'a only electricity...:)
