PLA doesn't extrude properly, but PETG does?

Hello,

I've been running into an issue, where PLA just doesn't extrude properly. Some roles, I need to up the temp to where it strings heavily, or else, the nozzle will clog, or it does print and then have some layers with underextrusion.

I'd add, that the underextrusion issues get worse when using adaptive layer height. As only the smallest layers get severely underextruded.

When printing the exact same model, but with PETG, it prints without any issues.

Is there anything I can do to solve this? And what even results in underextrusion with PLA only? Note that I had to print PLA at 220-230 to get it to even print halfway properly, whereas the exact same filament role prints at 200C on my other printer with a Hemera extruder.

If you're swapping between the two are you following this procedure?

When switching from a low temp filament to a hotter, heat to filament temp, unload, heat to new filament temp, load, purge, print.

When switching from a high temp filament to a cooler, heat to filament temp, unload, load new filament, purge, cool to new filament temp, print.

Cheerio,

The Prusa seems to do that step automatically. It heats to PETG temp, unloads, loads PLA, purges, cools down and then print at PLA temp.

Just realized, that it didn't include the image in the previous comment. This is basically, how it looks when printing with PLA, with some missing layers and inconsistent extrusion. But then when printing with PETG, it looks great.

Yes, that could be caused by incompletely purged PETG.

In order to purge PETG, try this. Tell the printer you are loading PETG, but actually load PLA. Purge several times (answer no to "is the color correct"?). Unload the filament. Reload PLA but this time tell the printer you are using PLA. Proceed to print. See if this helps.

Mark
