Prusa Mini+ First layer calibration

Hello,

today i received my Prusa Mini+ and i am very happy. I am unsure about the quality of my first layer calibration. I had to correct -1.3 mm roughly. Then i printed the frog example. Look how the first layer looks.

Is this intentional or do I have to further lower the z axis. Do the first lines in the box of the calibration pattern really have to stick together tightly ?

looking forward for feedback.

thank you and best regards

Ralf

RE: Prusa Mini+ First layer calibration

Hi Ralph, the first layer is best photographed as a single layer...

judging by your Brim, the first layer appears  to have insufficient squish  Live Z too small a negative number

the Prusa first layer configuration tool is not easy to use, try one of these files...
75mm mini bed levelling files

Note, these values are unique to my printer, but the images show how muck difference small changes in value, can make.

RE: Prusa Mini+ First layer calibration

Hi Ralf,

congrats to receiving your new printer! I have a Mini too and I love it so far.

The small box at the end of the calibration pattern should be solid, yes. No see-through gaps between the lines. You should be able to pull on it and it should withstand some stress. Also when performing the first layer calibration, look at the corners it draws in the large pattern. They should be nice and sharp and not round.

I mostly adjust by -0.050 step by step after I roughly found a good spot until I'm satisfied.

these patterns may be easier to set up...  (Similar to "Life adjust 'Z' My way")

but made for the Mini

Joan

I have a further question.  I received my Mini+ about a month ago and it took me several days to get the First Layer Calibration dialed in.  I finally got it correct at 1.650.  I ran the printer for 3 weeks with perfect Prints until I had a nozzle clog.  After research on this forum I was able to get the partial clog issue corrected.  However, I was unable to pass the First Calibration as the head was to far above the plate (live z topped at 2.0).

I performed the height adjustment of the sensor as described in the knowledge base ( https://help.prusa3d.com/en/guide/how-to-change-a-hotend-ptfe-tube-mini_119449#153790) but the First Calibration is still not correct and I am at a live Z of 1.750.  This seems very high to me.    Would you have any advice?

Thank you

Mike

Hi Mike, I would consider trying a different Live Z calibration program, the Prusa one is not easy to use.

you could try Life Adjust Z My Way, by Jeff Jordan...    the original is meant for a Mk2 or Mk3 printer. so I will attach some mini files here

https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk3s-mk3-assembly-and-first-prints-troubleshooting/life-adjust-z-my-way/

Prusa Mini files

these values are unique to my printer,
but give an idea about how small changes in value can cause large changes in surface quality!

If your live Z value is still on the large side, you could reset to live Z =0 then raise the superpinda, relative to the Nozzle

Thank you Joan.

After running the calibration  you provided and also communicating with Prusa, it was determined I actually have a bad sensor.  It is being shipped now.  Thank you for your advice and guidance.

Be Well

that looks like your extruder is still too high

Please see my comments higher above in this thread

@janv

My Z averages -0.33-1.750 - I have 12 prusas and they each have their own value and sometimes it varies by filament type.

PETG?

Running the first layer calibration with PETG, is there an expected thickness? Should I measure the thickness and see if its what it should be and then re-run until I reach the thickness?

PETG question 2

Should first layer PETG be squished with no visible lines in between?
