MINDA saver mods tried

Hi Guys

For info I have tried a couple of the 'MINDA saver' mods that have appeared on 'Prusa Prints' and 'Thingverse'

These are the parts i printed

The top cover for the electronics box swaps over the cable exits for the two big cable bunches, moving the X-Axis cables closer to the extruder head

The other mod removes the cable from being directly tie-wraped to the extruder motor block.

The shaft replaces the cable against the motor block and its lower element moves the cable over, at an angle towards the extruder head

The only thing i have noted is that the wires that come out of the cable bundle to drive the extruder motor gears hang down and will rub against the print sheet when at the lower settings of the extruder.

They can easily be moved slightly up to avoid this.

I can confirm these mods do work and there is more 'slack' in the cable bundle leading to the extruder head.

My MINI is now printing fine after fitting these mods.

(Sorry about the orange prints, it was the only PETG i had available 😉 )

Thanks for the update. I wonder if Prusa is going to implement some of these edits on the printers that are being manufactured right now.

@geoper2

It is possible they release R2 of plastic parts. I redid zipties at least, those were super tightebed and in left-most position on X carriage was pulled back by cables. I was worried about too much strain. These mods allow even more slack.

For anyone who's not seen it already, they've already updated the designs for securing the minda cable on Mini's yet to be shipped out.

They showed this in a blog post -> https://blog.prusaprinters.org/2019-recap-plans-for-2020-and-original-prusa-mini-update/

This update didn't fix the issue. My Mini arrived in early February and the minda failed after 3 weeks.

Could you identify the position of the cable brake in the Minda cable. Is it at the position when cable changes from fixed position to flex position for movement of z- and x- axis? Or was it in another place?

Best regards, Clemens (getting nervous)

I simply removed only the upper zip tie and it seems to work fine. 😉
