Stringing

I use a MK4 with either a 0.25 or a 0.4 nozzle and primarily Jessie PETG. By altering filament overrides values I have reduced stringing artifacts somewhat, but stringing still exists.

I am on a quest to find the ideal combination of PrusaSlicer settings/overrides that will eliminate stringing. In Printables I see LOTS of photos/models that seemingly had no stringing artifacts.

What combination of PrusaSlicer settings do you use to eliminate stringing with Jessie PETG ?

Not interested in a discussion on stringing, as I have read the PrusaSlicer documentation, but it does not proved specific value that will eliminate stringing.

RE: Stringing

First of all try drying filament, this is very visible how it helps especially with PETG. Another option is trying other nozzles that have different properties and PETG is bit sticking to it that much.

Otherwise in the slicer try experimenting with different temperatures (±5C or try temperature tower, I'm usually around 240-245C), or wiping before travel or increasing z-hop a bit.

There will always be stringing, some filament versions string less ( transparent) but recently I tried a white filament and it is the most stringing I ever saw.

RE: Stringing

Filament moisture is not the cause. Filament is stored with desiccant at less than 15 humidity. Boise is an arid climate, humidity @ print is typically less than 20%

RE: Stringing

During production of the filament it is pretty common that it is cooled with water, printed on different location that you got the filament ( thus higher humidity), and even if you open a fresh pack of filament  stored with silica gel packs does not guarantee that it is dry.

That is why people recommend drying filament with for example dedicated food dehydrator that can reach 70C for about 8h - some cardboard based spools even force people to dry it longer. Of course different filament types should be dried in different temperatures.

Drying decreases the stringing, but does not remove it completely, because it is the chemical ingredients in the filament make it stringy.

This was discussed few times on the forums already. Look for dedicated dryboxes or food dehydrators for more.

Thanks. This filament is not new as I have had it in dry storage for over 6 months. Moisture/humidity in the filament is not the cause of this stringing

@bid3d

I have been watching this post, and I will tell you based on decades of experience that you are printing with moisture laden filiment.

you can deny this to your dying day, but that filament needs to be dried. Possibly it should be dried as its printed.

We have seen this a hundred times.

Good Luck with your denial.

RE: Stringing

Ordered a filament dryer, hopefully it will lessen some of the stringing.
