Raft settings for prusaslicer that are like simplify3d rafts.

Hi, my first post and I’m new here. I’m an OG 3D printer and have my ways. I really like the prusaslicer but would like to figure out the prusa settings to emulate the fat first layers of a simplify raft. I hope people won’t tell me not to bother with rafts, or to go with the prusa default. The heart wants what the heart wants 🙂 ! Any tips gratefully received. Xsculpt

Hmmm.. this seems to be a bomb. or its covered somewhere in the forum and I missed it. Would love to know if anyone does a fat first layer or two using prusa slicer. I feel that these fat layers, as simplify does, has real advantages, at least in my workflow. I would really like to start using prusa as it has so many excellent features.

Rafts are, (In my opinion) a last resort...     I prefer to try for good adhesion, first...
For PLA, make sure that the build plate is really clean

Make sure the first layer is well adjusted

I use the 'Life Adjust Z, My Way' process
https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk3s-mk3-assembly-and-first-prints-troubleshooting/life-adjust-z-my-way/

these actual values are peculiar to my printer, but the differences between the values will give an indication of the different surface finish

have you tried increasing the first layer to 0.3mm layer height, and perhaps increasing the first layer extrusion width to say 0.5mm or 0.6mm

Hi Joan, thanks. Looking forward to trying your suggestion.

I used to print straight to bed and swore by it. I would also do live adjust with both the knobs and the baby step z settings. I like those flat and clean bottoms. But, my beds are warped and now that I’ve got my machines  properly trammeled and my x bar (z axis) stabilized i always do rafts. They prevent elephant’s foot, prevent warping of the part and allow for micro adjustments before I get to the part. Even high dollar high precision machines, like stratasys,  recommend them.

i have creality printers mixed between ender 3 max, ender 3s1 plus, ender 3 v2 pro and a cr 10.

Cheers!

I don’t think you are going to any joy with PS rafts. PS treats anything printing on a raft as printing on support, and even with the positive strides the more recent versions have made with their surfaces above support you won’t get anything like the flat bottom you get when printing to the bed.
It’s just one of the reasons that you will see most users recommending that they are not used and pointless with PS.
