What are all of your settings?
Pretty much a cut-paste of the above:
0.25mm z distance.
75% xy distance.
3mm support spacing.
4 interface layers.
0.2mm interface layer spacing.
The rest were defaults.

Just make the changes and save a copy of the profile. Then use that profile. You need the copy as you cant modify the saved versions of the Prusa ones.

Great post - thanks Bobstro, you've solved the broken Prusa supports!
Silly question, but I keep coming back to this as the default Prusa ones just don't work (probably the only thing that I'd still prefer other slicers for - eg S3d's Prusa profiles work perfectly in this respect) - if Bobstro's settings are so much better, why doesn't Prusa just change their default settings to his??
I know I can manually create a profile, recreate it for every default z-depth print setting and then remember to flip to that each time and reset each time I upgrade, but just feels daft they don't have the best setting by default (or at least have tight, medium, loose supports as options - or indeed a 'Bobstro's Working Supports' as a setting.... 😉
Regardless, thanks again Bobstro - I've jotted your settings down for future reference!

I am using .6 nozzle with these settings, and for the most part, they came off ok. I did have a part get mangled on an edge that was contacting the support but that could be because of its shape. Is there anything of the above settings that you all would recommend changing for the larger nozzle?

Yes, it depends on the model. Specifically, do you have overhangs or wide bridges that are above parts of the model that are already printed, or will these be over a bare build plate?
You can very easily try one option, slice it and preview what you get, change to the other, re-slice, and compare.
I've found that it usually does not hurt to select the 'everywhere' option (I have that on a couple of presets) for models that really do not need it.

Hi,
I've been using bob's support settings for a long time. And I've been pretty satisfied I should say but recently the supports became hard to remove again. I have no idea why this happened because I didn't change the support settings. The settings are still the same.
Anybody else having this issue?

For now, I am not using PrusaSlicer for supports. I have switched to Simplify3D with I need supports. I get better quality and easier to remove supports.

I'll sometimes use Cura for supports, as it seems to be more predictable as to what it does, and it has more intuitive support options.
I was particularly impressed the other day when I used Cura for an item that had some horizontal overhanging registration pegs. It did nice neat triangular support pieces starting just under the pegs, as opposed to the grow-up-from-the-plate support towers that PrusaSlicer would do.

Cura is ok. Simpify3D is superior for supports. Not sure if it is $100 better.

Here's a quick comparison of supports I did a while back for ideaMaker, Simplify 3D, PrusaSlicer and Cura. PrusaSlicer is definitely the weakest in terms of appearance. The Cura result is a bit marred, but the non-tree supports look good. My personal preference is ideaMaker's result overall.
There are long-standing issues open regarding supports on the PrusaSlicer GitHub pages. My understanding is that PS inserts a bridge layer directly below the supported layer and the actual gap between supports and supported surfaces can vary depending on specific settings.

Thanks for the advice @bobstro, PLA parts are now easier to remove
I am using 0.40mm nozzle and standard settings on the PrusaSlicer software for "0.10mm DETAIL" but with @bobstro parameters for supports
I just have one final concern about the bottom surface quality (where the supports are generated).
Any idea on how to improve it?

Change the part orientation. You can make it so that the file prints better and with less defects.
What not print the circle up and the flat side down?

(Actually the circle is the part I care more to be smooth and with a better printing quality. If I print the circle up, supports will be build inside the circle.)
In any case, my request of advise is more general, for any kind of printing: how to get better surface finishing / quality on the surface in contact with supports?
Do you guys get better results than the one I had?
To me it looks like the nozzle print thicker lines with bigger gap on the first layer after the supports...

It does print them thicker as it’s printed as bridge infill flow. If you look in the preview of the slice you will see that they are a different colour. There isn’t a setting to turn that off either.

@neophyl thank you! I now understand. You are right, I can see the different color in the slicer preview.
So, if there are no options to turn off the bridge infill flow layer, are there instead options to edit it in order to enhance its quality/resolution ?

I just wanted to say thank you, thank you so much for these settings!! The stock settings I used before are trash compared to these, it reduced my support removal time by over HALF!!! That’s HUGE when you are printing stuff commercially and needing to account for time

I'm a newbie who was just as frustrated as others with support settings for ease of removal and minimal surface impact. In fact, I was starting to avoid printing objects requiring supports. I came across this thread yesterday and decided to take the plunge and try them. WOW! They worked beautifully! The possibilities are now endless :-). Thanks much!!!
