RE: PrusaSlicer 2.5.0-alpha2 is out!

Afraid not, went back to tried and true. Very, very bust right now! Been running 24 hours a day on prints for 5 days with more of it ahead. Just sticking with tried and true because I have to take all these parts and put the projects together!!!

I understand, I still use an older version as well for work, I was just curious if you had, thanks for  the heads up on your results.

I know what you do, so Ill say keep up the good work.

Hi, Does it address the supports not printing with the model, i know it prints every third layer bet the supports dont end at the same hight as the model. Using SS just because of this. Or am I missing a setting. Thanks.

Your question is a bit vague, but you can select "Synchronize with object layers" of course you will need to set the contact Z distance to Zero, and slicer will build you supports matching layer per layer, but that's not new it's been there for a long time. just like SuperSlicer 🤨 🤔

Hi Yes I now about this setting but not going to solve the problem. The support layers do not build/print at the same hight as the part. so if the part is 100mm tall the supports dont reach 100mm. the nozzle prints in  the air from the 2nd or 3rd support layers. In other words the nozzle moves up 0.6mm but the extrusion is not sufficient.

I Have added pics, the supports are not printing to keep up with the model.

I have never had anything like that happen. I even ran a test yesterday with the alpha and it was all working as it should on my printer. After looking at your images my guess is that you don't have a properly setup profile for your type of printer in prusaSlicer.

It might be a good idea to move to, or start a different thread and see if anyone can help.

See how it goes for others!!! I'm really buried in work right now and don't have time to mess with it if I can't be sure of things. Trying to launch our above elbow loss solution has been a bear and have a long line waiting for help along with regular work. Will look forward to the final release.

PrusaSlicer 2.5.0-alpha 3

Still cant get a straight seam line, no matter what settings used for seam position. I even painted a seam line 0.1mm, and it still found a way to curve noticeably (not attractively).

Not acceptable. Maybe we need a Classic seams selection? so we can choose to have Straight or Wonky seams.

While I appreciate that 😉 (it made me smile) my complaint was based on the latest released version https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/releases PrusaSlicer 2.5.0-alpha 3

The last line in :Bugfixes with respect to PrusaSlicer 2.5.0-alpha2

  • Aligned seams in alpha2 were sometimes needlessly wavy, especially on simple geometries. This was improved and the effect is now reduced (although it may still appear in some cases) #8443, #8504

Still not even close. Tested in Windows on multiple objects.

Sorry, but I've given up on GitHub for this project. Instead in just communicating with users of the forum.

Hi Swiss

At the risk of me sounding like a dumb ass how do I get a copy of PrusaSlicer 2.5.0-alpha2 or 3?  We're really keen to try Arachne on our project as it could save loads of print time on our TPU creations.

🍻

Check the link to the github page which @swiss_cheese posted, then scroll down and download the version for your individual system....

I try to give answers to the best of my ability, but I am not a 3D printing pro by any means, and anything you do you do at your own risk. BTW: I have no food for…

I've been using 2.5.0-alpha2 for a few days, and after watching a recent video by Thomas Sanladerer, I switch to a 0.6mm nozzle. His claim is that 0.6+Arachne gives you as good precision as 0.4+Classic, with faster prints. I print a lot of mechanical parts such as gears and threaded items, and 0.6+Arachne is mostly doing fine on them. However, I think it shows a bit of over-extrusion, as I see some elephant's foot (I usually don't get any), and occasionally a big blob of filament. Maybe it's not over extrusion, it might be too much squish, e.g. live Z too low. Worth experimenting more, but for now I will still with 0.4 when I need the results to look good.

Yeah, declaring the 0.4 mm nozzle dead felt a bit like jumping the gun. I've see some very nice improvements thanks to Arachne, but I've also seen some issues (such as fused print in place models; GitHub tickets are open for that). As with anything else, there's pros and cons (and I'm sure the pros will way outweigh the cons for Arachne) but the 0.4 mm nozzle has every right to claim "I'm not dead yet"…

RE: PrusaSlicer 2.5.0-alpha2 is out!

I saw that video also, someone posted it in one of the threads about printing text, and while I know the guy has to make a living I felt like Thomas Sanladerer sold out on that one, click bate and all. He gave bad information to sell whatever his sponsor was trying to sell, even his examples where the opposite of what he was saying.

Lost credibility, with me.

As for the Arachne perimeter generator, I can see it being a useful tool, I've been able to do some nice things with it, but its not going to be my main perimeter generator, for now I'll be sticking with the original perimeter generator, and trying to find ways to use Arachne to address certain features. I really do wish they had added it in a way that allows it to be applied to "Parts" of an "Object".

I'm still seeing issues with it as well. I expect we may see some of them sorted over the next couple years.
