PrusaSlicer "0 presets successfully imported" on new computer

Hello everyone,

I am facing this problem with PrusaSlicer version 2.5.0. I have multiple computers. On my main PC, I did this:

File > Export > Export config bundle with physical printers

Then on the other PCs, I do this:

File > Import > Import config bundle...

Then I point it to the ini file exported from the main PC (I have attached that exported file here).

It gives me this error:

Interestingly, if I open that ini file in a text editor, I do see that the physical printers which I customized ARE there in the file.

What can I do to fix this issue? Thank you for your advice.

-Raj

The export/import config bundle only work on non system CUSTOM profiles.  Do you have any custom ones in your export ?

Thanks for your reply.

By custom profiles do you mean "user presets"? I do have user presets for print settings, filament and printer. Those are what I want to be available on all my PCs.

Please see screenshot below, are these custom profiles?

RE:

here is the ini file.  I noticed that it is not really attached to the first post as I mentioned.

Oh, it does not allow upload for a ini file. But I was able to upload it after renaming it extension to a .txt

Here you go

I opened Ps2.5 up using a local settings shortcut (in effect giving me a 'clean' install configuration wise).  It started the wizard as expected and I just clicked finish so that there were no profiles installed.

Then I imported your config bundle ini file.  It imported 40 presets.  6 printers, including a sla one for tree supports as well as various filaments and print ones that are tied to the various printers.  So pretty much as expected.  I'd say the ini bundle works ok.

As far as attaching yeah, the forum is very limited on the allowed types which is why we zip up most things like .3mf files or stls etc.

How is that done? I would like to try that myself. I looked at command line options but no such option is there.

ok I found out what the problem is! On the PrusaSlicer download page there are TWO downloads, see below:

1. The big orange button gives you this file: PrusaSlicer_Win_standalone_2.5.0.exe

This version does NOT import any presets and gives the error I posted in the first post.

2. The "Full package..." link gives you this file : prusa3d_win_2_5_0.exe

THIS version is the one to get! This imports presets from the config bundle file just fine.

Shame on you Prusa! 😉 You wasted hours of my time troubleshooting this!

You should make it clear that the "most obvious download button" will give you a "gimped" version of Prusa Slicer (or in a politically correct manner - this is a less capable version). Yeah, it can be argued that "full package" is the obvious one, but you guys put it there in a big button. Why is someone going to click on that small link below a big "download me" button! It is like a woman with "deep pockets" flashing you! You are going to go for the obvious, aren't you dude? Get it? ROTFL 😉

I actually tested this on a VM with a snapshot which I could revert back quickly. To me it seemed that the "all drivers and apps" are optional, and I am not going to connect my Prusa printer via USB to this door stopper of a desktop PC anyway, so I did not download it!

I never get my software from their website, just the github releases page.  You just extract and then run the .exe file on windows.

As for running a 'clean' install config wise you can specify the configuration directory location when starting up.  If you create a batch file with the following
"prusa-slicer.exe --datadir %cd%"  in it then when run it puts the data folder in the current folder when starting.  Which means you can copy the extracted files to somewhere and just run it to get a 'new' install for testing purposes.
Of course you can specify the folder to be wherever you like which is how some share settings between computers by using a network share or even dropbox etc.
