Can I convert a 3D model into support?

I have a complex model and would like to export supports directly from 3D software (Fusion 360).
Can I build it within the modeling software and then convert a part of the model into a support?
I only found the option to import an .stl file as support, but I would have to align all the parts by hand.
Thanks.

If you create two parts (or more) in your 3D modelling program, and you save each part as an STL. in the correct location and orientation in the 3D modelling program, they should retain their positional relation ship for each part

If you then import the lowest part into Prusa Slicer, and right click on that part, while it is showing on the prusa slicer 'Editor View' page, you should see the option, to 'Add Part', then Choose 'Load', and then select the name of the next part.

Prusa slicer should then load the next part in the correct relationship to the first part.

you can repeat this for any remaining parts.

You should also be able to export the file through Save Mesh but as 3mf, not stl, and when you open it in Prusaslicer say yes, when it asks you if it's a single object having multiple parts. I do that all the time for multi-color prints without an MMU.

Another thing I have done is just build breakaway supports into the model itself. I left a 0.25mm gap. They printed with the same settings as the rest of the model so it may or may not work for your specific design.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.

I found that the .stl fils did not align because they were multiple objects and not parts of the same object. Now I understand how to do it.

Anyway, it doesn't create the desired supports, so I'll try to create a 0.25 spaced piece as suggested.

Thanks again.

The parts of object method is just used to define areas to support.  You can define them as support enforcers just like modifiers added after the fact in Prusa Slicer.  Its just easier to place them and define custom shapes when done in cad.  One thing though is a modifier object has to actually touch/intersect the other object to define support for it as its where they intersect that is important.  If they don't touch then you aren't 'marking' the area.  With the ease of painting on areas requiring support now, its generally just as easy to do the definition that way.

You cant make a part actually be support unless its specifically modeled the way Fuchsr describes though.  In which case as far as Prusa Slicer is concerned its not support, its just another part of the model anyway.
