Do your belts look like this?

In my Core One, moving the Nextruder by hand requires a bit more force than I would have expected; the resistance also varies as I push it along the X or Y axis. So I scrutinized things a bit, hoping to find sources of friction.

One detail that struck me was that the edges of the belts show some wear -- light brown spots instead of black. The "bald" spots occur on both belts, distributed along the whole belt length, and on the top and bottom edges. (Maybe a bit less on the bottom, but that side is hard to see and judge.)

Do your belts look like this as well? Is this just normal wear, from the belt edge touching the idler flanges? My printer only has 7 hours of printing time and a bit less than 1000 m of travel in the X and Y axes, according to its built-in statistics. Many thanks for your feedback!

It's not wear, belts are manufactured as a big cylinder and then sliced at the right width.

So what you see in brown is textile that reinforces the belt. As the threads couldn't be perfectly parallel in longi, when the slices are made it's impossible to cut where rubber is, so they can be visible.

Right, I certainly can't rule out that the belts have looked like this right from the start; I did not pay attention to the edges then. So do they all look like this? If someone else could confirm that it's the same in their printer, that would put my mind at ease!

This is absolutely OK. I didn't found the CORE One replacement belts yet, but you can look at the XL ones:
