RE: Core One and MMU3
Im UK based and I've got a Core One kit on order atm. I have bundled a few bits like hardened nozzle, filter and filament in to avoid having to pay 2 lots of shipping. Wondering if it's worth me buying an MMU3 as I would like to have that as an option, but wondering if it's better to hold out until the revision for the Core One is announced? I have had some feedback to hang fire, but based on this thread and thinking about adding one on, thoughts?
I have an MMU3 for My MK4S. I will switch the MMU3 to the CoreOne, but will wait until they do an official relase. Why? The Nextruder was updated for the MMU3. I like the MMU3 updates to the Nextruder. O-ring to seal the grease, stronger idler design, filament sensor works when laded in the gears. Also new material for the parts. There may be other Nextruder updates for the CoreOne. Also I spent 40 years pioneering new software and systems. Time to let someone else do the pioneering work.
RE: Core One and MMU3
Prusa is planning on announcing a Core One Upgrade Kit for the MMU3 in April (or so I have been told by Prusa Tech Support).
My order for the MK4S to Corer One upgrade is on hold, at Prusa, until the MMU3 for Core One Upgrade is available so that I only have to take everything apart once.
Hopefully this will include a headed dry box, preferable that mounts on top of the printer. Though watching the MMU3 work on the MK4S is a lot of fun.
RE: Core One and MMU3
So if I have an existing MMU3 I can't use it on the Core when I get it? Is it disabled in firmware?
RE:
As a newcomer to 3D printing, I spent a good while choosing which printer I would go with. I always liked the idea of a Prusa but the price put me off. I didn’t like the idea of the Bambu, despite the popularity they have gained (so glad I didn’t buy a P1S) and after looking into the pros and cons of the top contenders for what I wanted one for, the timing of the Core One was perfect for me.
Price aside the upgradabilty, MMU3 compatibility and community seemed the right choice for me. It seems crazy to me though, that Prusa have announced/released this printer and are only updating/upgrading hardware such as the MMU3, as and when after launch? I mean they offer the filter unit, but only from March?
From what I’ve read Prusa sometimes seems to do things this way, but from a newcomer and don’t get me wrong, a patient one at that; I’m in no rush, it is quite strange. They are at least very transparent, so you know what’s going on, eventually 😅
RE: Core One and MMU3
It is not a matter of not being able to use it, it is how to mount it, where to put the buffers, etc. We will have to see what Prusa comes up with.
At least you might have to print some new brackets to mount it. At most, I don't know.
RE: Core One and MMU3
Some good points, I’m new to all this and learning more and more each day about what’s happening, with certain aspects, so thank you for the advice.
I suppose it would be a good idea to wait for what is announced MMU3-wise, as long as the shipping after my initial printer isn’t extortionate 😅
RE: Core One and MMU3
Ya I am ok with printing a new mount. I currently use auto rewinders in the (un)original prusa drybox. Someone is buying my MK4s without the MMU3 and I used the MMU3 a lot so don't want to be without it for months.
RE: Core One and MMU3

I would expect that it's not just 3D-printed parts, but some metal bridge or carrier plate across the top of the frame. You will also need to come up with a new cover, unless you are ok to sacrifice the enclosed and heated build chamber. See the photo in Prusa's recent blog post.
BTW, I really hope they come up with a nicer-looking cover for the final product...
RE: Core One and MMU3
Precisely this. The MMU3 works - it is completely compatible, since the Core One uses the same electronics/nextruder etc a the MK4s. the functionality is already there - Prusa are just tweaking the final solution. ie, how the MMU3 sits onto the Core One, the filament feed route, etc. This should not take too long to crack.
IMO there will most likely be a new mounting bracket that you can print in order to mount the MMU3 to the Core One. This is at the very least.
Other options include a complete new drybox filament storage design, which will come at a cost.
Note, the MMU3 itself remains the same. Its no different to how it is now, other then the mounting bracket. There is no actual upgrade to the MMU3. The 'upgrade' is the mounting and filament storage solution, should you need it.
Personally, I have my own solution, so I'm happy printing a new mounting bracket and maybe getting the cover to keep the enclosure reasonably sealed, as shown in option 1.

Exactly and this is the proof:

If prusa doesnt come with something better, Im going for this.
RE: Core One and MMU3
What a great design - Prusa should just recommend this as their solution and be done with it. Can't see how they could improve any further.
For me it doesn't work unfortunately, as my printer has its back against a wall, and I don't want to have to reach around to get to the MMU3 if need be. I'd rather have it at the top (I have a shelf above the printer for all my spools already).

RE: Core One and MMU3
It seems to me, that there is lot of space in the box. Maybe you could modify it to have mmu3 on top side (but still inside). Of course you have to check ptfe length then. Maybe you will need tinker with profiles a bit.
RE: Core One and MMU3
(after a while...)
hello guys!
I have mmu3 kit ordered, coming about next week or so, i hope. At this time i (still) have two printers at home: old MK4S (which i plan to sell) and new Core One. Since lead time for Core One MMU3 is 5-6 weeks i ordered MMU3 for MK4S, but i'm seriously thinking to install it on my Core One.
I agree, it's great to have two printers, when i'm printing large stuff print time is halved... but on the other hand, honestly i really don't need two...
I did some reading and please confirm if i'm correct: for lite version of Core One MMU3 all i need is to print some things and have 450mm teflon tube (which i have at home). All other things are included in the kit for MK4S. So, installing on Core One should be breeze.
Correct?
RE: Core One and MMU3
That is mostly correct. There are also a couple of M3 fasteners recommended to hold the MMU3 in place but it's also likely you have those already as well. Also there are a bunch of magnets used to keep the buffer attached to the body of the core one.
RE: Core One and MMU3
Thanks! I already have magnets on the way from aliexpress, they should arrive anytime. Fasteners, screws….that i have plenty. I don’t see anywhere what to do with rest of the top opening / how to close it, though… i’d say that 3/4 of top is left open after mod… i guess i’ll have either cut top plexi or add another one.
RE: Core One and MMU3
@Protoncek: You can order the mmu3 enclosure kit (33€) to exchange the top.
RE: Core One and MMU3
You mean whole conversion kit for 39€? I can't find anything for 33€...
But i did find official explanation regarding difference between lite and enclosed version: they say:
The Lite version is mounted on top of the printer with the printer’s top panel removed. This makes the installation quick and easy, however, you will lose the benefits of the fully enclosed printer (although you can 3D-print a new top cover).
so, top cover is not designed for lite version (since they say we loose benefits of fully enclosed printer) and we must "figure it out" by ourselves. Which shouldn't be too much of a problem... As said, one option is to cut existing one (which i kinda don't want), other is buying a piece of plexi separately.
RE: Core One and MMU3
@Protoncek: sorry, the 33€ was a typo.
"The Enclosed version comes with a new plastic part - a modified top cover with a pass-through for the PTFE tube that leads the filament from the MMU3 to the extruder. In this case, the printer remains fully enclosed."

RE: Core One and MMU3
Yeah, i know that one, thanks, but, as said, it’s 5-6 weeks leadtime compared to 1-2 weeks for mk4s kit. I waited ages for core one to arrive, i’m not about to wait another 2 months for mmu3. i’ll rather draw something by myself. I already found one version on printables: HERE .
RE: Core One and MMU3
Okay, that solution is interesting too...a bit more elegant...
and not as ugly as the Prusa solution 🙂
I'm still not sure which solution to go with...Actually, I like the one with the MMU in the side recess the best. But the effort...
