Any reason not to use a switched UPS outlet, and UPS VA sizing…

Will using the switched outlet on an UPS to power on/off my Core One be bad for the unit in any way? And will a 700va UPS be adequate for momentary power flickers that typically happen during Florida thunderstorms? Don’t intend to keep printing for hours during any outages, only saving a print during a momentary flicker. Thanks.

Given that the power off/on switch does exactly the same thing, I do not see why this would make a difference and, if you search im other posts in the forum you will see that there a a lot of us doing exactly that to remotely turn on/off the printer with all kinds of switchable outlets.

w/r to the wattage needed, I will let someone else answer that as I can't...

Thanks for that. I just like to double check in case there's something I didn't think of. But this is a relatively simple device so, yeah.

There is an article about UPS devices for 3D printers here. It mentions especially to use devices with "line interactive technology." I guess the other ones would react too slowly and the print would be lost anyway. As for the capacity a UPS with 700 VA is perhaps enough for short interruptions. The table in the article mentions running times for the printer with the UPS and the required capacity for longer running times.

Curious though. Is Power Panic not supported on the Core One?

Power Panic

According to the comments on this page, it appears it doesn't function as intended on the C1

OK, so I just tested the Power Panic feature and it does work. I started a print then pulled the mains plug from the socket. The head moved to the left. After plugging back in, the head homed on the front left corner, then right and the print resumed. Note, this won't work if you turn it off from the PSU switch (which makes sense).
