Extruder Detaches during print

Dear Community,

in the printer's defense...I have maxed out the build volume on this print, yet I found it surprising to find the extruder fully detached during the print.

I noticed that the latches, locking the extruder would mechanically unlock when the carrier moves all the way to the right hand side of the printer (seen from the front) yet I was expecting the slicer to consider a margin here. Are there any safety margins to the 360*360mm bed size that I should adhere to?

The full 360 bed is within the "safety margins", though it seems that maybe the right side holder should have a little bumper to completely avoid this type of situation. The extruder should never move out that far right during a print unless a some sort of failure occurred. There are a handful of videos of this happening and it's usually a large and fast movement that the printer fails to stop because a stepper glitches or something. Your print more-or-less had a layer shift situation which unfortunately meant crashing into a wall which unlocks the tool.

Yes, I've observed it also.  Seems to be more likely with large diagonal moves.  It also seems to be an effect of belt tension - after it happened to me I checked my tension and found it a little low, adjusting it to be on the high end of the "ok" scale seems to have helped.  Note if you use the Prusa app, watch the video to make sure the carriage and head are positioned *exactly* where they show, and repeat the measurement a large number of times with your phone held in different positions.  My readings were all over the place, though somewhat better once I took the case off my phone.

But I agree with @Baconfase, there should be a stop that prevents the head from whacking headlong into the rail - that can't be good for either one.  Too bad we can't really add one without also having to hack the homing code.
