Not removable media?

Note the completely bizarre error message.  It tells me drive D: is not a removable media.  Yet, if you look at it, you will recognize that it is the original USB drive that came with the Prusa printer.  I can write gcode to it, take it to my printer, and print from it.  But I want to use it directly via WiFi.  Can't get it to write, because the stupid program refuses to write the file to nonremovable media.  Frankly, this seems a pointless test.

Windows 11, latest updates as of yesterday.

Did you boot up with the drive inserted?  It's ten years since I last worked with Windows but iIrc it used to assume that any disc present at boot is fixed.

Nope.  It has been working fine for transferring gcode but when I plug it in, it is not recognized as removable.  So the test is meaningless.  The error message should say, “does not appear to be removable media.  Write anyway?” with options of “Yes” and “No”

OK it's an operating system problem:  you need to go to a Windows support site.

No, it is a PrusaSlicer problem.  Its opinion of the nature of the media is of no relevance here.  If I say “write it here”, then it should write it where I tell it to write it, and trust me, not the OS, as to the validity of that place.

RE: Not removable media?

This is weird, I regularly write gcode to a genuinely non removable drive with no problem.

The problem is not writing gcode.  It is writing the WiFi configuration file.  It is not the role of PrusaSlicer to forbid me from writing the file to the place I tell it to write it.  And while it might question my choice, if I tell it where to write it, then it is its job to write it there.  Its opinion is irrelevant.
