XL full enclosure

Since Prusa isn't telling us much, what do you think is going to be Prusa's direction with the enclosure?

Do you guys believe it will be at the time of the XL release?

Would there be something you wish they will do differently for the XL (Compared with MK3)?

What should have your ideal enclosure?

RE: XL full enclosure

Looking at the XL it seems it would be possible to add panels to the unit itself in order to create an enclosure around it. The only thing needed would be some sort of lid, if that was even necessary. It sure would be a big enclosure otherwise.

While it is true that is not entirely open as MK3s and therefore might be less affected by drafts, if people work in proximity to these printers you might not want to print ABS (or worst ASA) without an enclosure. And while making a lid and a door might not be all that difficult, I would rather just have the option to purchase an enclosure from Prusa, and save myself the headache.

Because you know, time is money...

RE: XL full enclosure

It can be.  Remained heat helps improve print quality with some filaments.

I'm surprised how few choose fire suppression. I've seen a few print farms post inferno and it's a little scary.

Right, isn't it? Its a machine that can melt plastics at temperatures of up to 300ºC non stop for days on end... Is definetively a must for me.

Another thing that surprisingly few people think about regarding an enclosure is the thermal insulation. As soon as you get 15-20 degrees above room temperature, the heat flow out of the box becomes substantial. One way to handle this is to have double walls.

I modified my Printer Box to include one of those Blazecut tubes. I think if I had more printers I'd probably go for the version with the electronic switch so I could cut off mains power to the device(s).

RE:

I hope they make a full enclosure for the Prusa XL. I am an Mechanical engineer for my day job and 3d print things as a side hustle. I am looking to get a larger printer than my 5 CR10v3s, huge fan of the tool head changer (I tried the mosaic pallete 2s, it works but the slicer was so clunky and limited and so much material was wasted, I have not used it more than 10 ish times)

I have enclosures for all my Cr10v3s. It is essential to reduce power/heat loss. I am also interested in the filtration as I have needs for ABS but do not want to print around my family.

Please please please make one! It is my only hang up for ordering one an XL w/5 tool heads. I am too busy.... and lazy... with side hustle and day job to design and build one. Hence, why I am not getting a Voron V2.4.

I use both.  I have blaze cuts and a smoke detector that cuts the power.

I saw now a video of those Bazecuts shutting down a fire on 3D printer. They look impressive.

RE: XL full enclosure

The one I have is no longer produced.  It was a Kickstarter (I Believe).  It is 4-5 years old.

I have seen folks post about these:

https://www.tindie.com/products/niujl123/smoke-alarm-for-3d-printer/

Here is a discussion:

https://www.reddit.com/r/homeautomation/comments/nwraro/looking_to_set_up_a_smoke_detector_that_can_shut/

Here is a printables where someone made their own:

That's not an answer to the question.

Despite the fact that it is 4 years old and has probably been a kickstart project but is now not available,

it will have a name and model number.

So which one do you use?

RE:

The switch I have does not not have any marking on the outside.  It may have had a sticker at one time but I have removed it.

It was called the Smoke Signal.  I bought mine after seeing it on a forum.  I bought it on eBay and not from Kickstarter.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1064868871/smoke-signal-a-safety-system-for-3d-printers/comments

On my other printers, I just use a Blazecut.  I am thinking of adding one of those object in the printable link.  I am just not sure about the Kindie one.

RE: XL full enclosure

I don't know why everyone wants millions of features on prusa enclosures, all I want is the basics so I can begin fabricating things. The more features = more delays + more cost.

Keep it simple, keep it efficient. Deliver early-on-time.

All I want is efficiency features such as external PSU and possibly an LCD extension cable to mount the LCD outside the enclosure. The rest is all user-mods or future upgrades.

Exactly, @DRKMSTR. I just want to seal it up so I can slap a fan and dryer hose on it. Nothing fancy. Just keep the fumes out of my office.

So, no ASA, ABS, or Nylon? To me is primarily, also to keep fumes and particulates out, mostly going to be PLA anyways. But I still want to have the option, from time to time, to be able to print other materials. And venting outside limits me too much, as it makes it difficult to maintain a constant temperature.

A fan and dryer hose will pull the fumes out a window. Like this: https://www.printables.com/model/18703-3d-upfitters-prusa-enclosure-additions

I have seen them, but as I said, I prefer to be able to maintain a stable temperature. No night and day fluctuations for large prints. No cracks no banding..
