Flex80 Resin Issues

Prusament Flex80 Resin-Black

Hello, I was wondering if any members here have used the Flex80 Rubber-Like Resin?

I am currently running Test prints to perfect making rubber tires for 1:18 Diecast Models, prints are now successful after a 1st attempt failure, but i am left with a sticky/tacky feel to them after cleaning and curing.

Any help is appreciated, Thx.

RE: Flex80 Resin Issues

What's your post wash and print time? I use Flex80 quite often, and have not had any issues with it (other than making my IPA dirty quickly).

This is my process when printing, hope it helps:

  • I use prusa slicer with the default print and resin settings for Flex80.
  • more times than not I print directly on the build plate
  • pre-heat resin to 140°F (60°C) for 20 minutes with the CW1S
  • print
  • wash for 3 minutes
  • Heat the printed part (still on supports or with supports if used) at 140°F for 20 minutes
  • Cure for an hour with CW1S

I batch print some rubber grommets for motorcycle windscreens - so far no issues with tearing under compression or riding down the road

RE: Flex80 Resin Issues

Thx for the reply Ben👍

I had been following my routine with regular resins which was a 2-part IPA wash for a few mins in each bath, then a rinse off with warm water and air-blow dry. That would be followed by a UV cure time of 10-15 mins. I was informed by Prusa Help that I should not rinse with water after IPA bath, and that it needs to be dried at 45 degrees Celsius, for this I will need to find a solution for drying at that temperature as I do not have a wash/dry/cure machine, and that an hour is ideal for Curing time.

Looking at you specs, I do warm the resin with a heat blower before printing but not as high as 60 celsius or for that long, the Flex80 is much thinner than the Resione F80 that I have tried before so I didn't think heating for too long was necessary, I print off supports as it's Tires for modelling that I am printing, and my curing time isn't that long.

I am currently looking at the CW1S machine as it seems to allow for all of the required steps when using this Flex80 resin. I am printing using a Phrozen Mighty 8K but it seems that it will be compatible with the CW1S. It looks like I will need to follow these steps you've provided and see what the outcome will be.

Would it be possible to view your Flex80 Resin & Print Settings that you are using in your Slicer? It would be Greatly appreciated, I wasn't able to find any online and luckily after one failed attempt I was then successful with my prints.

Thx again,

Damon.

RE: Flex80 Resin Issues

Damon,

I use the built in slicer profiles for all my resins - I don't adjust anything. Prusa has a profile for Flex80 in prusaslicer. A CW1S is a great investment for curing these resins.

RE: Flex80 Resin Issues

Hey Ben, sorry for the late response, at the moment I am using a Phrozen Mighty 8K printer with Chitubox as my Slicer, so I don't have access to PrusaSilcer's resin settings, if you are able to share an image of the settings it would be much appreciated.

I did run another test print last evening, prints came out well, I cleaned with 2 baths of IPA, dried under Heat Gun(pretty hot) for at least 5 mins, and then cured in UV Box for 1hr on first run, then for another 20mins. They seemed to still have a slight Tacky feeling but seems better than my first test print. After proper drying and curing will they feel as though they are dry and no feeling of stickiness, or is this how the finish product will feel being a Rubber-like Resin? Thx.
