Print two different matereial PETG + PLA
Hi guys,
I want print a my project with two different material (PETG+PLA) I use prusa i3 mk3s MMU2S. Has anyone tried to print this way yet?
thanks
RE: Print two different matereial PETG + PLA
No but I’ve tried other combined materials ( Nylon and ABS). I used the setting/profiles that suited the hottest material.
The printing worked fine. But the disaster was that the two materials didn’t stick together.
They just fell apart at the join when I lifted them off the bed at the end of the print. I guess I could have glued them together but if I was going to do that I could have just printed them separately at ideal settings for each.

Bonding between the two materials (PLA and PETG) is pretty horrendous, but it's possible depending on how the layers are arranged. Try with a scaled down model and then scale up if it works. The sliced gcode is pretty poor to handle this though, @nikolai-r's script is essential for multi material IMO as the temps are handled in a lot more predictable manner.

For people returning to this topic in the future, I did a bunch of tests with using PLA & PETG in same print and found that using different materials has a huge impact on model strength. For a typical purge volume of 250mm³ you can expect layer adhesion strength to be 1/5 of what it should be. Sadly only way to get around this is to purge crazy amounts of plastic ~2500mm³, or getting a 3D printer with at least two hotends
