I'm slowly working my way through the enclosure build. Quite glad I ordered the 2kg spool of Colorfabb PETG in Prusa Orange as the 1kg PETG spools were sold out within a day after stock replenishment... Still waiting for that to ship so going through some other bits.

Purchased all the fasteners yesterday. The 6x50 screws only just grab in the original Lack predrilled holes. The double threaded screws that come with the Lack table are 7mm in diameter. Using the 6mm screws doesn't seem too weak actually but I suggest you use a larger diameter screw if you can find one with the correct length. It won't be a common size unfortunately...

If anyone's interested, I designed another version for the PSU replacement bracket. Definitely more cumbersome to remove if you want to have the PSU back on the printer frame but uses less plastic to print, allows for a better view of the print surface and I feel is stiffer as it minimizes induced bending moments. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2883827

I have read some issues with the 45degree connector on the thingiverse site.

At the moment I am running the mk2 still in the Lack but has anyone come up with any alternatives for bed cabling for when I do take it to 2.5 and have the longer bed?

(the issues are cable collisions and wear due to part height)

It looks like you've got some additional parts that aren't in the official files like the track under the plexiglass in the front.
Did you make them and if so are they publicly available? They look great and I like the additional magnets at the top of the doors.

Where is a good source for Plexiglas in the US? (or a reasonable alternative?)
The usual hardware stores seem comically overpriced.

I ended up sourcing a large twinwall poly-carbonate panel used in greenhouse construction for about $30. I'll have to modify the printed parts and it'll be a little tricky to cut but there's more than enough to enclose the printer and make a cover for the spools up top to keep dust and moisture out.

The honeycomb structure will obstruct the view a little but also improves the insulation of the enclosure, though I might end up using regular plexi on the front doors.

That's still a bit pricey. Look up a seller named powers.plastics on eBay. I ordered 4 sheets of 500 x 500 x 1.6 for about $45 including shipping. They take custom orders for size, so getting smaller sheets to fit this specific design shouldn't be a problem.

Tapplastics.com can ship all the plexiglass for ~$60 from CA to TX. $50 + $10 shipping.
Get the extruded acrylic, not the cast.

I ordered Saturday. Got an email that it shipped today. It gets here Friday.
Printer hopefully beats July 😀

Cast acrylic is stronger than extruded acrylic. Some extruded acrylics are getting close in strength to cast but the closest I’ve ever tested was still about 20% weaker than the strongest cast acrylic. I spend a lot of time with different manufacturers comparing materials for other products I make and sell looking mosty at strength and then at thickness tolerances. Technically cast has better optical clarity but I’ve never had the tools to test that properly. Honestly the two seem about equal for me for clarity in higher end brands. I’ve seen some extruded economy brands have a few tiny bubbles but that’s it. In this LACK design the legs a screwed into the sides with the strength relying on a printed support. So the acrylic panels actually do add to the stiffness of the enclosure. Which can be a factor if you’re going fast with larger prints.

I have built the IKEA Lack enclosure but it seems to be too light. It is not able to dampen the vibration of the printer. The whole thing is vibrating when the printer accelerates hard. Before that I had the printer on a heavy glass table and it was rock solid. I have the idea to fill in the Lack table with clean quartz sand. I assume the table top is empty inside. Has anyone tried it like that?

I can confirm the tabletop is hollow as I've been drilling it. I'm going to design some printed brackets that attach the tabletops to the wall in order to stiffen the thing up that way. May regret that as the bedroom will likely be on the other side 🙄

My build is going slow resulting from moving house and me being picky and pedantic 🙄 Just designed a bracket to mount the PSU on one of the legs using screws rather than having it loose in there like the original. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2932186 for anyone who's lagging behind me in his build and can use it to his/her advantage.

This enclosure thing was an absolute odyssey so far. Plexi didn’t fit, cables on PSU too short (so I have to have them extend) and with a bit of luck the 60° brace screwed my heat bed wiring 😥
By the way, does anyone know how airtight this thing should be? Don't want to screw the electronics as well.

Almost everything seems to have survived. Let's hope it stays that way.
Now the filament sensor is acting up, but that is for an other thread. 😕

Seriously considering this, but have a few questions. Some of these may have been answered, but I'm quite new to 3D printing in general and Prusa specifically, so I want to double check.

1) Can this be printed in PLA or is PETG really needed? I don't currently have an enclosure, and was under the impression that an enclosure was needed for PETG printing. Or is that incorrect?

2) I have a Mk3. Is there a solution for the hear bed wiring? I'm seeing reports that the 90 degree bracket doesn't work, so will it work with the stock wiring cover?

3) If I add the new MMU, will it work with this enclosure? I think I saw something about mounting it on top and then using bowden tubes through the "roof", but I thought the new MMU doesn't use bowden tubes?

4) are the PSU wires provided with the Mk3 long enough to move the power supply out of the box, or will I need to solder on extensions?

5) What about the rest of the electronics? Are they ok in the heat? Or should the einsy and LCD be moved out of the box, too? I'm planning on adding a Pi Zero W for octoprint, will that be OK in the enclosure?

One more question: I'm hoping to skip the bottom legs, and have the whole thing sit on a table. Anyone have a good external mount for the PSU done that way?
