Turn off silent mode for calibration!

Yes, I am guilty. First thing I changed was turning silent mode on. Big mistake.

What does silent mode actually do to the precision of the motors? This is a serious question.
Turning off silent mode made the difference from failing to find the initial probe points to this:

Markus,

if calibration fails in silent mode, it could be that your axes aren't moving all that smoothly. In silent mode the steppers are powered with less current, so they tend to lose steps way easier if there's a bit of resistance.

I print entirely in silent mode. My prints are perfect. Loud printers are not used for real calibration. If the motors print accurately at lower power and torque, you have set up your printer well.

I also print in silent mode only. Had some/few print fails due to curling and then loosing steps which gives layer shift, but maybe better than knocking the part off or break anything.

me too, i print nearly always in silent mode and ran my xyz calibration perfect in that mode.
in my opinion: if the calibration fails in silent mode, there's something fishy.
