Print Setting Advice

Hi All,

I'm looking for advice on setting provide by Gambody of one of their models.

I'm printing this  C3P0 Scaled up to 200%

https://www.gambody.com/3d-models/c-3po

I usually pritn figures on my resin printer so I'd like some input on these settings. these are their recommended settings.

Thoughts ?

Thanks

Jeff

RE: Print Setting Advice

Hi Jeff,

The designer already provided recommendations how to print his model. Try this settings and see how it goes. If you encounter any issues, feel free to ask specific questions.

@nikolai-r

I was asking if these are good for a mk3s . In the past I have tried settings from modelers  that were tested on another printer and was left with a pile of melted plastic.

@jeffk

This are no printer specific settings. Speed looks good. As this model costs $20 you will most likely don‘t find someone who already printed it here and checking the forum on regular base.

Go for it.

Those appear to be recommended settings for Simplify 3D.

  • S3D will extrude a bit of extra material if you specify a 1st layer height less than 100% (actually extruding the full amount for 100% but fitting into a lower height for more squish). You could specify a slightly wider 1st layer extrusion width in PrusaSlicer.
  • The recommended support distance of 0.1mm may be a bit hard to remove. I usually go with 0.25mm.

As @nikolai-r says, you may just have to give it a go and see where it fails. Printing at a smaller size to get a feel for the problem areas might be a good idea, or at least give a try with some cheaper filament.

Another thing about that first layer height... Prusa printers are firmware limited to a minimum of 0.15mm for the first layer. If you give it a gcode with less than 0.15mm for the first layer, it will print at 0.15mm under extruding filament (not good for adhesion). Then the next layer will be over extruded. Specifically with these settings where you are specifying a 0.1mm layer height with first layer at 90%. So the first layer wants to be 0.09, the second layer at 0.19, etc. When printed on a Prusa printer the first layer will be under extruded by extruding 0.09mm's worth of filament at 0.15mm layer height. Then the second layer will be over extruded with 0.1mm's worth of filament at 0.04mm layer height. It will balance out at the 3rd layer, but your first two layers will be unpredictable.

Ah interesting, but makes sense! I always use 0.2mm for my 1st layer but I've seen people trying to use 0.1mm.
