Little layer gaps randomly in prints on both my MK3S & MK3S+

Hi,

I have both a MK3S & MK3S+ along with a few Enders and for some reason both my MK3s give me these little layer gaps in my prints when printing them up vertically. I have used the Discord channel and made sure my Live Z was right so I don't think it's my Z and I can't seem to fix them where they can print a smooth vertical wall without the random little gaps. I've attached a few pictures of items.

Could those be where retractions are happening?

Possibly? Do you think I need to increase my retraction rate and test it or decrease it? Though looking at where they are don't most retractions happen no a layer change? those seem more randomly in the middle of the print

I've seen gaps like that if I had retraction too high or I forgot and had PETG retraction settings(3-4mm) in my PLA print profile.  I don't think PLA needs near that much.   when it happened to me I saw gaps in places just like that.

@ssill2

Thank you, I will test the retraction settings and see if that helps!

@greenhoe

I'm printing something right now in PLA and I'm relying on the printer defaults:

Retraction Length: .8mm

Lift Z   .4mm

@ssill2

Adjusting the retraction has helped a lot! Thank you.

@greenhoe

in my limited experience, I've found that I've not needed to depart from the prusa defaults at all for PLA.  PETG is a different story.  Every vendor's filament is it's own beast.  Which is why I'm using up most of my different vendors and standardizing one 2 to 3 and getting those dialed in.  To compound things, each model can present it's own challenges...

When I get a new filament I usually print one of these:  https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:923097

It helps me get my settings dialed in and it adds to my luck, which I don't think you can ever have enough of!
