How to print tall thin part maybe support enforcer but along the walls?

Hello

I need help on printing this

The part is 17cm long but is 1.14 mm thick.

No matter what when is arounf 70% the part starts bending on moving resulting in failure.

I slowed thge speed, used Z lift, etc. Still as it being a very thin and tall print when it reaches arounf 70% the top of the print moves.

Is there a way to place supports along the walls of a print to improver stability?

I printed with raft but still the top part to at some point starts bending

Thanks

If I had control over the design, I'd add some sacrificial supports to the sides. Some fins, triangle, or what that come up to touch the main part where you're beginning to see issues, so it's stabilized from the back. Probably possible to do it in Prusaslicer by adding a part but I'm more used to doing this stuff in CAD software.

Formerly known on this forum as @fuchsr -- until all hell broke loose with the forum software...

I do not have control over the design. That is what I was thinking on doing it in Prusa Slicer without luck
Thanks

RE: How to print tall thin part maybe support enforcer but along the walls?

you can add custom supports in Prusa Slicer to help stabilise a tall thin model

in this demo, I have created a tall thin panel, and a tall thin panel support, to support it.
in the image, the tall thin panel is on the left, and the STL for the support is on the right... but it's a bit short,  so I added a second support, turned off the scale lock,  and scaled the support in only the Z axis, in order to make it nearly as tall as the tall thin panel, then I manoeuvred it on the slicer build plate, so that the points were just piercing the surface of the model
this should ensure that the interface causes a bond...

If I were doing this for real,
I would probably use two supports, each located maybe 1/4 of the model width from the edge of the model, with the interfaces on the least important side of the model
then I would Select all parts (Ctrl a) and then select the Merge option, to make all parts into a single part, to ensure the printer didn't try and print the interface area twice...

Here are zip files for the project file, I created (Not Merged) and the STL for the support.

OMG Joan
You may be a life saver

This is not the only part I need to print like this many more like it
Care to explain a bit how you created the support in prusa slicer?
I really really apreciate your time and effort on this

Hugs

Belen

Hi Belen,
I actually created in in 123D design
but now that you have it, you can stretch it to be larger or wider, or thicker to your hearts content

to make the support smaller, you can use the 'Cut' tool. as shown below

in the example below, I have used the piece which I cut shorter, above, and used it with the original tall thin part, then I have stretched the support in only the Z direction, so that there is still support, but there are fewer points of contact

in this way, you can further customise the  support parts

in the image below I was able to use LESS support, because the model had greater inherent structural stability
