how to achive perfect first layer underneath finish

hello guys, i print cake topers and i print them mirrored so the finish is given by the heatbead texture. How can i achive a perfect finish from the heatbed? i have the smoth PEI steel bed on I3 MK3.

You can see in the picture how is it coming right now from my machine. I want perfectly smooth finish, is that possible? right now you can note the perimeters and the infill, they're not welding twoguetter, also i think there are som marks from travel moves...  any ideas on how to improove that finish?

Note.. i know there are some marks from the pei surface it self... but im worried about the bigger ones from print movements and plastic paths.

Generally bed flatness combined with Z-Offset.

Try following "Jeff's Life-Z Adjust" [sic] procedure.  The basic concept is to use a large pad to make adjustment; the larger area gives time to make adjustments and see the effect of a small change.

Here's what I use.  You can also scale it in Plicer to give yourself more time.

Also, be sure you use the 7x7 bed calibration rather than the 3x3.  It does a better job.  And I personally don't use magnet compensation; though your experience might be different.

First i wood try, ironing, 3d printer and ironing search with youtube/google, or this forum.

Cura slicer can do this, on flat top layer, it can move along the filament and melt it , to make it flat.(text not in mirror) .

Also look on this forum for ironing, there are tips to make the top layer better, without ironing.

For your settings now,

try hotter,

extrusion multiplier higher

extrusion width you can change and try settings.

Overlap setting.

RE: how to achive perfect first layer underneath finish

Hi,

I used to have the bottom part touching the plate exactly like a mirror. As in you case, the trick is just to have a very low Z-Level adjustment, possibly with a 0.3 extrusion that put enough plastic.

I created a two layers square test object that I use to calibrate the Z-Level when I want to get objects with the perfect flat bottom. Of course it may create issues with 0.2 or below layers so I revert back to my standard 1st layer Z-Level when I finished.

It is just a matter to experiment.

Regards

Andreas, ironing will not produce a flat "bottom" finish.  And, it probably will not provide a finish of the quality you want.  It still uses the nozzle to push plastic around, and there will be high and low spots and ridges left as plastic squeezes around the hot nozzle.

Just fix the layer one issue you have and you'll be good to go.
