Help with printing overhangs

Hi - new to printing with a MK3S that I got assembled & used from a friend. I've printed a number of test prints (frogs and scrapers and whatnot), and seem to have the basic calibrations down, but I've been having trouble with a big print.

This is the model: https://www.printables.com/model/823122-open-ball-v1-ball-vise-system/files#preview:file-HfbuA

As you can see, it has an overhang, and when my printer gets to that part, I get a lot of dangling, unattached filaments, and it looks like a bit of a mess. Attached a picture of the work in progress. About 15 minutes after this, the top became such a mess, it crashed and couldn't recover.

How would one set up the slicer to compensate for that overhang? Or is there a fine-tuning option somewhere I'm missing, like speed, or grouping...? Basic settings are Layer height = 0.1 mm, Supports = "Support on build plate only", and PLA as material, and Infill = 25%. Everything else is default.

It looks like I could set supports to "Everywhere" and get a big scaffold to support the overhang based on the Slicer preview, but then the base plate wouldn't be very clean.... is that likely the only way to handle it?

Appreciate any & all ideas.filaments hanging off overhang

"Support on build plate only" is your problem. There is nothing that needs support directly above the build plate in that model, so you are not getting any supports. I would change that to "For support enforcers only" and paint where there should be supports. The listing for that model included a handy diagram showing where to place supports (Yellow areas in picture in Printing Advice section in Details tab).

You could also do supports everywhere and them block then in the red areas as shown in that diagram. But that seems like a lot more work to me.
