Print failures: filament bunches up
I thought I had solved the problems with my printer when I discovered that if I extruded a length of filament, the print would be good; if I didn't extrude it, either it would not come out at all, or would bunch up around the hot end into a formless glob. But tonight, nothing I do seems to stop it from turning into a formless blob. It just comes out and wraps up around the hot end as if by capillary pressure (which I know isn't the reason, but it feels as if this is what is happening). I think something is out of adjustment, but I don't know what.
I have an MK3S, and although I once had the MMU2 on it, I gave up on that; it just didn't work. So I have a single hot end and a single spool of filament. I am trying to print things with small footprints, but if I use a brim (which I haven't tried tonight) it leaves ugly sharp edges on the parts,
Any suggestions as to what I should try to get successful prints?
RE: Print failures: filament bunches up
I tried to edit the post to add some details, but the edit got lost.
I am using Pronterface on Windows 10 via direct USB cable. I did the alcohol swab before each print attempt, used the dish-sponge-rough-up once after four failed prints, which led to a fifth failed print.
Octoprint simply disappeared from view; I suspect the RasPi is dead, but I have too many things to do already, so I have not pursued it.
I am using PLA at 215C and a bed temperature of 55C. I am using the same filament that gave me good prints two weeks ago.

Partial clog? Try some cold pulls.
