Inconsistent/Under Extrusion Prominent on First Layer [MK3S+]

For some reason, the first layers of my prints have recently had very inconsistent extrusion. Also, when extruding filament through the hotend above the build plate it comes out semi-porous (with a bit of a hiss as well). This is even with a PLA spool that's only been open a day or two. I've replaced the nozzle and checked the PTFE tubing (which looked good as new), and there was no change in the quality of the print. I've had this printer since about April of this year and have used it quite regularly. Not really sure where to go from here trouble shooting-wise.

Try to get the nozzle closer just a little bit more with the Live Z.

that should solve your issue

I'm not an expert. Ma parlo anche italiano 😉

If you’re getting inconsistent extrusions and you’re hearing a hissing sound, try drying the filament.

Even PLA and even new filament can sometimes need drying out of the box. It sure sounds like you’re dealing with wet filament, as well as needing to lower your Z height a bit.

Cheers

First dry the filament.  If that doesn't help try a cold-pull.  You can set your first layer Z lower as suggested but eliminate the other potential causes first.

Cheerio,

Lowering the z height has actually made the issue with the first layer mostly disappear. But maybe I’ll still try drying the spool and see if that helps with the porous/hissing issue. But at this point it may just be a non issue. Thank you!
