First Layer Problems: First Layer is sticks too loose or too hard on the bed?

Hi,

my Prusa suddenly started to cause a lot of Headache to me. After a successful print I got problems with the first layer. Sometimes the filament is pressed to hard against the bed and sometimes it looses the connection.

What I tried so far:

- Changed the filament

- Cleaned the bed

- Cleaned the nozzle

- Tightened the Extruder screw

- XYZ Calibration

- Initial Setup

- Adjusting Z Level several times with the test print. Tried a wide variant of values. Right now set back on -1060

nothing helped.

About the Printer: About 3 years old, never changed something, regular cleaning according to the manual once per month.

Some images:

My last successful print. The Problems started 10 Minutes after it was finished.

Won't get better than that at the moment.

Has somebody an idea what's going on or can lead me to a direction what could cause this problems? My Prusa ran way too good for many years and I have almost no skills in Printer Debugging 🙁

Best Answer by Zoltan:

The extrusion looks probably fine, the first layer is horable.

I would recommend:

  • change the MBL from 3x3 to 7x7 better bed bending correction
  • start the 1st layer calibration from higher position eg. -0,500 and lowering the nozzle

Not sure what filament do you use, but it can also influence the steady filament flow

Did not your Pinda losen in the thread?

Does this 'sometime' mean during one 1st layer calibration or two different?

Different filaments could require different z-offset which can be stored in different Sheet profiles.

The first picture seems to me the z-offset is too big. A 1st layer calibration video would be great.

How about extrusion, is it ok? You can check it with settings->move axis-> move e

The Screw that holds the Pinda was a little loose and I tightened it.

Hi Zoltan,

followed your process and I have good results at -902 and will continue from here. Thank you very much for your Debugging Instructions!

I wonder how this could happen. Was this just the P.I.N.D.A screw? Or is it the bed? I've started a printing PETG 3 months ago and I have to bend the Steel Sheet way more go get the prints detached.

After printing PETG Models, try dribbling IPA onto the build plate around the bottom of the model, let the IPA soak in for a while, then try gently removing the model, it should release more easily.
