Current consumption and additional devices on Prusa power supply.

I have Mk3s + Mmu2s and to the setup I'm going to add several devices and connect them to Prusa power supply.

The devices:

Rpi4 + Rpi camera. Only Rpi4 consumes up to 5.5 watt without camera. Dc2Dc 24v-5v.

Led light -  I still don't know how much meter of leds I will able to stick on the lid of the encloser,  but I would like to use about 1.5 meter, which consumes about 15 watt at maximum brightness (it has controller by that I can change color and brightness). 24v.

2 fans : one to insert air through filter , and 2nd to blow out. Each fan consumes 1 watt on maximum PWM configuration. Dc2dc 24v-12v.

So ,I think,  it could be too much for Prusa power supply 24v, 250 watt?

I don't know how much power consume the printer with mmu2s .

Please advise,

Thanks.

RE: Current consumption and additional devices on Prusa power supply.

Hi Jacob,

The MK3S printer has a 250w power supply.

On the Prusa page it indicates the following information:

What is the power consumption of a PRUSA printer?

The average power-consumption that we have measured, at 26 °C (room temperature), is 80 W when printing generic PLA and 120 W when printing generic ABS.

You can see here

There is no information regarding the consumption of the MMU2S, but due to the components it has, I assume that it will have about 10 to 20W more.

The RPI4 uses a 5v 2.5A source, the camera is calculated within that consumption. The maximum that can consume everything if it is used at maximum power is 12.5w.

The leds as you indicated consume 15w and the fans 2w in total.

The total power of all components is 170w. You are at the power limit of the power supply. You would be using the power supply at 70% load.

I recommend using an external power supply, as a short circuit can damage the board.

Thank you for the response.
In any case as you counted the all consumers , is short time consumption.
Rpi is about 5-6 Watt , light will be off or low brightness (3-5 Watt), fans will on off state (PLA printing) or on low performance by PWM controller (for ABS). So the power supply will work on about 50% .

Why I should get short circuit and where ? And why it will damage the prusa board ?
