After replacement hotend kit install, squares on screen, cannot factory reset, can't open com port, no response

I've changed my hotend before and have rebuilt my extruder a few times with no issues.  This time, I'm getting all white squares on the display, it won't factory reset, even though I can see the printer on my PC over USB, the PC fails to communicate on the port (com3) when I try to flash firmware.  I have removed my rpi, but no luck.  I have thoroughly checked the cables, tried swapping the display cables, and checked the three fuses, but everything looked good.  I also don't get a clicking sound when I press the wheel or the X.  The Prusalink webpage says the printer is unavailable.

Help!

If all the electrical connections are good at both ends you may have broken a wire while working on it - if you have a multimeter check the continuity of every wire you can reach.

Started disconnecting wires and checking power as I go, eventually getting the display showing the boot logo as it should.  Now to break out the meter and start checking connections.  Actually, I'll just start plugging stuff in until it flakes out...if it flakes out after connecting everything.

I just started reconnecting stuff until it failed.  Parts fan has a short, which I did notice the wires a little askew yesterday.  I'll resolder the contact.

Thx

RE:

Found a tiny amount of frayed ground wire on the fan bridging the pos.  Separated them and added a small bead of silicon to hold them in place.  Everything works again.
