Software Feature Request: "Ok" to Start Print

Whenever I print, as the nozzle heats up, about 4 cm of PLA drips out of the nozzle. I always wait with tweezers in hand and try to pull it off the second the extruder hits 215 and the bed hits 60. 5 seconds too soon, and more PLA will drip out; a second too late, and the extruder starts moving and the strand of PLA gets tangled to the nozzle which causes the print to fail 100% of the time.

Prusa Devs: would you consider adding an optional "Press OK to start print" feature that allows you to remove the strand of PLA once everything heats up, and then instantly jump into the calibration and print as soon as the user hits "Ok" (knob push)? This would save me, and probably many others, the trouble of having to restart prints due to blobs getting stuck to the nozzle.

RE:

@bobstro has an excellent site with LOTS of info, there is a page with info on how to modify the startcode for "nonozing" start, Here
Maybe it will help

Edit: Yes, I have done the modifications to my start code, and it works 👍

You can definitely to this in your startup gcode. The gcode examples on the page @ringarn67 linked to (thanks!) should give you an idea of what can be done. I personally have modified my startup to use a 2-step nozzle warmup to avoid dots of filament during mesh bed leveling, and to m0dify the prime line to capture any oozing filament, but you could also insert a pause if you prefer to do so.

This pretty much the same process used in the default Mini startup gcode — why they haven't changed it for the Mk3S, who knows.

It works great but just to point this out, between finishing the mesh bed leveling at lower temperature and heating up to target temperature, you may still have some filament oozing, depending on material and brand, so I'm always ready with my tweezers…

I've found that squeezing out a little blob of filament at the start of the prime line combined with a small "wipe" motion at the end of the prime line will usually trap stray filament. I print a thicker segment at the end of the prime line to facilitate adhesion as well.

Oh, I do the same — using your very own startup gcode as a template — but it still happens occasionally that some filament "escapes", so I just spend the extra 10 seconds watching the nozzle do its thing. But yes, in the vast majority of cases this prime line approach takes care of it.

I agree this would be great as a standard feature.  I usually Preheat for a few minutes while I'm exporting my gcode.  After 3-5 minutes, it has extruded all the residual material it's going to and I feel confident pressing go!

RE:

In addition to running the Bobstro start g-code, one thing I have found to help is to heat the bed up to full temp prior to starting a print.  Could be done through further mods to the g-code, and I think the firmware will let you do this manually through the printer controls, but I have found it to be simple to do through Octoprint just as part of my routine.  This minimizes the amount of time the nozzle can still ooze while the heat bed catches up to the hot end at print start.  Once the bed is at or near temp, I will tell Octoprint to start the print.
