Slic3r PE currently reached RC2 state and is close to the final release. Our developers fixed several bugs and we recommend beta testers to upgrade to this version. Note that this is still a testing release for experienced users 😉

our developers just released beta of Slic3r PE 1.40.1, which is full of new features! This is a testing version for experienced users 😉
New heatbed graphics
What is new
- Firmware updater extended and will upload language dictionaries starting the next firmware release 3.3.0-RC1
- Real heatbed graphics is used for the Original Prusa i3 MK2S and MK3 printers
- Object remains selected even when rotating or panning with the 3D view
- NetFabb STL fixing service integrated (Windows 10), right-click on the object and select "Fix STL through NetFabb"
- OctoPrint integration improved, new dialogue with options to rename G-code, specify a target path and many others
- AMF loading improved, Slic3r PE now recognizes, whether the AMF file is compressed (.zip)
- Many bug fixes, see the full changelog
- 3D scene code was rewritten from Perl to C++

great news, we released Slic3r PE 1.40.0, which is full of new features! This is a stable final version and will be added to the next version of the drivers.

What is new
- Integrated firmware updater for Arduino based boards (e.g. MK2S's Mini RAMBo or MK3's Einsy RAMBo).
Built in FW updater
- Completely reworked G-code preview colored by a feature type: speed, volumetric speed, filament color, etc.
To enable preview you must export the G-code first
- New super strong Gyroid infill thanks to @supermerill based on this research paper
New gyroid infill in a detail
- Full localization into eight languages Czech, English, French, German, Italian, Polish, Spanish and Ukrainian
- Automatic detection whether a model fits inside the print volume.
- 3MF format support and AMF format compression
- Enhanced multi-material support with per filament wipe amount and a variable layer height.

Been testing it for a few days, and i LOVE IT!
Love the printer selecter, love the automatic updating stock settings, love the newer-ish interface, love the detailed preview window settings after export.

I had a question. If the "update built-in Presets automatically" option is not selected, is it possible to check for updates manually?

Currently only an automatic option is available, you can select it later on in the menu "Configuration -> Preferences".

I love it, too! What's great is that app is finally starting with exe only, so easy transfer of STL from fusion 360 to slic3r is possible.
However, i wonder: is it possible to hide unused (unwanted) filaments? There are soooo many of them and i'm kinda lost in all those data and thus hard to find the one i need. Previously i deleted all profiles except one i use...
Or at least it would be great if custom filament profiles would be at the top, not at the bottom.

With 1.40.0-beta, I'm not able to connect to OctoPrint.
When I configured the settings IP and API an test, it returns:
Slic3r has encountered an error
Could not connect to Octoprint: HTTP 400: HTTP response code said error (22)
Note: OctoPrint version at least 1.1.0 is required.
My Version of Octoprint is 1.3.8.
In the last version of Slic3r, it worked without any issue.

just tested the connection between Slic3r 1.40.0-beta and PrusaPrint (OctoPrint) 1.3.8 and it works as it should.

thanks for the info. Unfortunately mine did not.
For your info, when I started 1.40 first time, it took over all the settings from the previous version. Exeception was Octoprint, where the fields have been empty.
Any further idea?
I'm using Slic3r on a Mac Book. Can you probably tell me how to make a full rest of all the settings?

to replace old profiles with new ones, please open the Slic3r PE and from the top row select "Configuration" -> "Configuration Assistant" and then tick the option "Remove user profiles". Let me know if it helped 😉

Export G-code and the new coloring by feature type will appear. I don't know what you mean by locked preview view - sorry.

this did not work too. No I'm really confused. It worked all the time without any issues. Just the last update to 1.40 "caused" the problem.
Meanwhile I rebooted my mac, I rebooted my Octoprint Server and I tried it again with previous versions of Slic3r. Unfortunately nothing changed.

Hey, So I don't use Slic3r that much... the inability to customize supports drives me to S3D always. But when I do try to use Slic3r PE I have a weird glitch. On my MacBook if I have the dock visible Slic3r will not go over the top of it. Basically as I open windows they all go over the dock like they should, but Slic3r sits behind it. So I have to manually go into my settings and hide the dock, or minimize Slic3r. It is so annoying.

Any chance of getting the print time estimated before exporting gcode. I like adding the time estimate to the file name, similar to the gcode files preloaded on the SD that ships with the printer. And it’s a PITA in the current version since you have pop out to the OS’s GUI/command line to rename the file after export.
It would be super awesome if I could just add {EstimatedTime} to the filename template...

i second this, just having the "output filename format" have a [print_time] variable would be perfect

I am having problems using the "Flash printer firmware" function.

Is there a way to turn on the 'Slice now' button when objects do not fit on the print bed?
I find it most annoying that it does no longer let me compare 2 versions of an object side by side. I find that to be an invaluable tool to improve the print-ability of my designs.
I suppose I can use version 1.39 for that, but I'd rather do everything in the one Slic3r.
