Second Printer

What do you have for your second printer? I have my MK3S as my first and need a second printer asap. All my co workers are ordering a print I made and I’m back ordered by two months and growing. I’ve looked at Voron, Tronsky, and others. I keep comparing  to my perfectly running MK3S and I now think just get another, then I can wait till the XL gets released.
Thoughts??

RE: Second Printer

I have both Mk3S and Mini printers, and one advantage of sticking with the same model is it makes maintenance and problem fixing much easier. Same procedures, same spares, etc. Same gcode files! In particular if you're on a path of "mass" production with two printers, having two Mk3 allows you to continue to happily print along with the second while you're using your spares to fix the first one.

RE: Second Printer

Like @fuchar I too have an I3 though mine's a MK2.5s (started as a MK2) and a Mini.  I also have an Ender 3.  I bought the Ender due to it's incredible community support.  Mine is heavily modified though, it has a Build Tak bed, an EZABL probe, a Hero Plus fan shroud, and a Big Tree Tech SK3 32bit control board with  TMC2209 silent drivers.  My Ender gives me prints of equal quality to my I3, but required a lot of effort to get it there.  If you like tinkering and Ender3 may be a good choice, it's supported by Prusa Slicer.  If you want all the features out of the box, the Mini does a nice job though it has a smaller build volume.

RE: Second Printer

you got nice setup there ! i would buy another mk3s or mk2.5/s as @fuchsr said you can use same gcodes and same spare parts, its much more efficient and you will always have one working printer

Be careful with your predictions, I had 2 printers go down very close to each other and until I fixed them the only reason I had a working printer is due to having 3.

RE: Second Printer

I've owned a variety of 3D printers and had at least two machines available for the majority of that time. I currently run 4 printers and, like fushsr, I run 2 prusa mk3s' and 2 monoprice mp10's for ease of use and efficiency. I've upgraded and setup each 3d printer model in the exact same manner (both Prusa's are identical and both monoprice machines are too) so running multiple prints quickly and without fuss is frequently achievable. Sharing g.code files and build plates is so time saving.

RE:

I just got my first 3d printer, the MK3S+, and am a relative 3d print newb. I am using just for fun gaming terrain and stuff like that. Instanly after my 1st print I realized having 2 would be about the sweet spot in time/amount I want to print. So even though it's more money I just went ahead and ordered a second MK3S+. It seems to be the way to go if the funds are available.

The XL looks awesome, but's not here yet and is huge! lol... maybe one day, and maybe one day a resin printer. But for now gaming terrain and dressing with 2 MK3S+ seems like a good thing. 🙂

RE: Second Printer

I have been running my MK3S+ for various personal items for over a year. Over the last couple of months I have been getting some orders for a client, and it seems like those orders will only grow. Long story short, decided to order one more MK3S+ for production work and one MINI+ as a peronal/prototype printer. With 2 MK3S+ I have enough to keep up with the orders, and also have some redundancy should one of them break. With paying orders coming in, a little more expensive printer is worth it.

So might need to change the title. I ordered another MK3S and pre ordered the XL. That should take care on my printing needs I hope. I might need to go to rehab for my printing addiction. At least it pays for my hobby, who knows how the XL works out maybe get one more with the 5 tool heads.
