Shifting layers?

So, I printed a few items that looked pretty solid, but none were very tall so that might have been why. I started to suspect my initial prints might have issues when I made a few walls for some games I play that didn't look quite right. A floor print I did had noticeable shift to it so I went back to basics. I printed the test boat once and saw what I think are real layer shifts so I tried to tighten the X-Belt some and reprint. Same issue on the new one and now I wonder... if its layer shifting, why does it go back to where its supposed to be and not stay off like in a lot of the pictures of layer shifts? Even when I printed the floor tile, it was the bottom few layers were in perfect sync with the top few layers, with the 95% of the print in the center off shifted some....

I took a picture of the two boats, and what has me is that the shift seems to occur in the same spot in both. If it was a belt skip, wouldn't it be more randomized?

Sloppy loose belts. Or maybe loose drive gears - but belts are my first vote.

And the belt tension numbers on the LCD are NOT useful for belt tension.  Ignore them.

@tim-m30

Whats the best way to tighten the belts? I adjusted the screw as suggested and the belts seem to give a bit of resistance when squeezed (don't droop on their own). Hard to figure that part out. Should I cut a tiny piece more and try to feed more into the drive?

RE: Shifting layers?

Check Thingiverse for Prusa improved X axis... Or do a Bear.

They both use screws to draw in the idler pulley. I consider that for superior to rotating the motor.

What you did passes the Thump test. Your tension should be fine for now.
