[rant] The mk3 sucks, needs alot of fixes, also in software.

1. Dust gets in easily, getting stuck in the extruder, making the plastic stuck and you hear the printer making clicking sounds.
Fix: gonna print a sponge holder to wipe dust from the filament.

2. The filament sensor works bad. It stops the print alot of times and unloads filament while nothing is wrong, the printer even reports itself its unreliable. Why implement this in the mk3 if it works for shit....?
Fix: Maybe a dust filter. Else il just keep it disabled.

3. Pausing the print causes software glitches that make the print fail alot of times. When resuming a pause, there is like 50/50 chance the print resumes in mid air, and everything already printed is wasted. Or when resuming a print, it tries to get to a 0 degrees nozzle temp before resuming.
Fix: None. Prusa hopefully.

4. The crash detection and step missing works but gets ignored anyway. I had a fair amounts of prints that have shifted layers.
Fix: None. Prusa hopefully.

5. The nozzle fan makes a fair amount of noise. Like something is stuck in it, yet i cleaned it already.
Fix: Maybe replacing it...

6. The printer makes vibrating sounds that you can hear all around the house.
Fix: I'm not sure, any good suggestions? Already tried rubber without much success.

Point 1: yes, print a dust filter, but still it works fine even without, I've not encountered this issue at all.
Point 2: yes, Prusa is aware of this and they disabled it while they're working on a fix.
Check latest firmware notes:
CHANGES IN 3.4.1
Filament runout detection fixed
Stealth mode bug (indicated as slow Z-axis movements) fixed
Message "Filament sensor response is poor, disable it?" has been temporarily disabled - this feature tended to be too sensitive and unreliable. We are working on improved version of this feature.

Point 3: tried and not encountered any issue, are you using the latest firmware? Make sure you're on 3.4.1
Point 4: Are you sure you're not using the Stealth mode? In Stealth mode the step missing feature is disabled, also this could be caused by other issues such as not properly tightened pulleys on the motor shafts. In this case there wouldn't be missing steps, but more the pulley sliding on the motor shaft and causing a layer shift which can't be detected at all by the motor drivers.
Point 5: The nozzle fan is noisier than the hot-end fan, yet shouldn't be making strange noises, try to replace it, but don't use chinese copies off ebay, they'll be way louder.
Point 6: Does this happen both in Normal and Stealth mode? I don't have such issue, however try to use rubber feets and place it on the ground and check if it still makes the noise. It may be that the printer is sitting on a surface that enhances the vibrations making it louder.

thank you for your reply. The layer shifting was in normal mode, and the firmware is the latest.

Well to be fair, the layer shifting only occurred when i needed a print fast so speeded up the printer alot, but still expected it to at least compensate for missed steps. The belts are tightened as they should.

i found another person with the same pause print issue:

as for point 6, it happens in both modes, but ofcource its much less sound in quiet mode. Its not sufficient however, and i prefer more reliable prints in normal mode.

If you are having the dust problem described in issue 1, it can aggravate issue 2. I had issues with a few filaments early on but the sensor mostly worked. It got so bad I disabled it. After cleaning it, it's back to "mostly reliable".

Nozzle fan should be very quiet. Contact support via chat if not.

Just returned to my printer now, and it reported "TMC Driver Overtemp". Another failed print.

I'l not recommend anyone to buy this printer.

To me it sounds like you're encountering too many issues, perhaps one of the motors or the drivers is broken?
This could explain also the noise you've been hearing.

Re: [rant] The mk3 sucks, needs alot of fixes, also in software.

Possibly improper (too high) belt tension could cause trouble driving one of the axis and driver overheat? Too low could cause a layer shift. I'd like it if they provided a simple but more objective means for people to set their belt tension correctly. I largely relied on past experience with toothed belts 🙂

As for dust: I definitely like having a fully-enclosed filament path from my drybox to a modified 'reverse bowden' fitting on top of the extruder.

As for noise: Stealth mode helps a lot, and in a properly functioning printer, the missing step detection seems unnecessary. I think re-greasing the Y axis bearings helps a little -- but you can't just slop it on the rod, you need to take it all apart to really force grease inside. Sorbothane hemispheres help somewhat. One of the unfortunate things about the rather standard rubber material of the stock feet is that they're not especially good at damping, resonances, they're fairly springy but not absorbing of the energy.

I find it interesting that the filament sensor has been basically trouble-free for me, including with clear PETG, and it's troublesome for others. (Mine was purchased around the end of September, so I think it's the same V2 version they're currently shipping.)
