need help with troubleshooting a benchy
So, this is my 4th print on my mk3s, and my first benchy.
I am having some strange waves in my print. What can cause this issue?
Can you see any other issues?
RE: need help with troubleshooting a benchy
What you are calling waves are unofficially called VFA's ... there is an ongoing thread discussing them. You can also research Linearity Correction, tests and settings.

ok, so this is normal, and to be expected in other words?
RE: need help with troubleshooting a benchy
I wouldn't call it normal; but such artifacts aren't uncommon. Depends on luck of the draw in motor quality... some motors do fine, others, not so fine. I have a good Y motor and a not so good X motor (though they are the same part, just assembled by different hands in the factory). And there are tweaks to compensate for some of it (calibrations, really). But some folk immediately go out and buy different motors, mod the firmware ... then bump into the next limitation.
You can reduce the effect by modifying print settings, mostly external perimeter speed. Then tune linear acceleration and linearity correction axis by axis. Even playing with acceleration can reduce the artifacts. And you have X, Y, and E to adjust. They all play a part, and they aren't always equally at fault.
Read some of the Prusa blogs on improving print quality. They have links to test parts that can help make some of the adjustments. Also, many threads on the forum like this:
