Extruder trapped by melted PLA

Hi,

Yesterday I had a terrible issue printing. My I3 MK3S+ had not printed anything in 6 months and I had what looked like a successfull print (with some flaws). So I tried to print another file and when I came back to get the print I saw my extruder like this, with an awfully solid blob.

I really don't know what to do. Heating the nozzle is not really helping to pull the melted plastic off, since it's such a big blob. Furthermore, it's actualy trapping the cables below the extruder.

In case it helps I used Prusament PLA.

Any brilliant ideas? Any clue what the issue could have been?

Thank you very much.

chances are that you had poor adhesion and the model came  off the build plate.

I use an old soldering iron,  to carve the old filament off the outside, whilst using the heater to heat this inside. be very careful with the wires!

Look at this Prusa video:

But as Joan pointed out: Be very careful with the wires. Especally with those brass brushes like in the video because the can short out your heater and damage your Einsy. I would recommend to heat the hotend and remove as much as you can with pliers (like in the video) and then heat it up some more and switch of power supply before using the brass brush. Repeat if necessary...

If it is not part of the blob removing fan shroud and fan makes things easier.

If your Fanshroud is damaged, You can print a replacement PETG Fan shroud without a fanshroud on the printer.

this may help you print a more temperture resilient fan shroud later.
