Variable Fill Density
Are there any slicers that allow you to do a variable fill density in different parts of the model?
I have a nearly hollow object I want to print, but want to base to be more solid to move the center of mass down so it will stand correctly. Variable by Z is fine for this application.
I currently use Slic3r and was wondering if this is a feature in other slicers, or if anyone knows of other ways to move the center of mass of a model without placing ball bearings in pockets during the print. I would prefer not to do a huge number of full layers (shells) at the bottom, but I guess that would work.
Thanks in advance,

Re: Variable Fill Density
Hi Aaron
It is possible in S3D.
Have a look at Makers Muse video on the topic.

Re: Variable Fill Density
you can use a modifier mesh in Slic3r

Re: Variable Fill Density
Cura also supports this
Nice write up for Slic3r:

Re: Variable Fill Density
Thanks Joan!
Slic3r's modifier meshes are amazing, and really give me total control of the slicing process. I wish I had found out about them sooner.

Very good stuff. Adding to this thread in case someone else is looking for this.

Re: Variable Fill Density
Different aspect: Does somebody know if Slic3r allows automatically adapting the infill density within the model ?? In Cura this feature ist called: Cubic subdivision infill.

Cura Github issue: https://github.com/Ultimaker/CuraEngine/issues/381
This seems to be the optimal tradeoff between stability, printing time and used material
