MK2S heatbed cable replacement

Hey all,

So after 4.5 years, the cable delivery power to my MK2S' heatbed has developed an issue. It's the soldered-on kind, so the only replacement heatbed power cable in the store is "not compatible".

https://www.prusa3d.com/product/heatbed-rambo-power-cable-screw-attached/

Any reason why it's not compatible? I would have thought I could simply cut the cable lugs off, strip the wires and solder it directly. I'm wondering if the amperage rating is not the same and doesn't support the load of this old style heatbed or something. Or if it's simply too short if I cut the lugs?

The issue is definitely inside the wire itself, about half-way up based on continuity testing and some prodding. Not at the point of solder.

So if I have to source the wire myself, what gauge minimum? Stranded wire is a given. Any good brands for something that will be enduring a lot of movement?

Thanks

RE:

To the best of my Knowledge, both Mk2 and Mk3 use 16AWG wire for the Heatbed Power
In the past I have replaced my Mk2 heatbed wire with Prusa, and it failed again.
I have replaced both Mk2 and Mk3 heatbed wires with 16AWG Flexible Silicone wire, (5 printers in total ) and never had a repeat failure.

I would look towards replacing with Flexible Silicone wire...

I have bought my own crimp pliers and assorted connectors,
If you don't have any pliers and connectors, you might consider visiting your local garage or motor spares shop, with the new wire and old wire, and ask them to do the crimp for you. (taking both sets of wires will help the people identify the correct crimps.

Thank you! I will use 14AWG and silicone for the flexibility.

RE: MK2S heatbed cable replacement

14AWG is heavier than necessary, but that's not a problem as long as you get the appropriate  size crimps and your soldering iron is able to heat the heatbed and the cable. I used a 60 watt 'Weller' temperature controlled Soldering iron  with a heavy tip. when I did my Mk2 with 16AWG, I don't think it would have soldered 14AWG because of the additional heat transfer due to the heavier cable
