Cover the screw heads on a MK42 heat bed

Hello everyone,

I am a little confused as my issue seems pretty obvious but I could not find anyone mention it. So maybe I am confusing something here.

I got a MK2 second hand and it works pretty fine so far.

When I got it, it had some BuildTak sheet attached to the heat bed. Which I found out is not default way this printer is used, so I removed it after it got damaged und tried to print directly to the heat bed. Which also worked fine. But the screw heads that mount the heat bed to the base are now not covered anymore. With some luck I can print over them but this results in a nasty surface of the print. I also tried to just cover the screw heads with Kapton tape. But the tape does not stick too well on the edges and therefore sometimes gets loose during printing and collides with the hot end.

Is it normal for the screw heads to be exposed? Or should they normally be covered with something? Maybe the previous owner removed the cover for some reason.

Best regards and thanks for your kind help!

Igor

Seems like I was just looking for the wrong things.

For everybody else wondnering:

It seems like the MK42 heatbed (amongs others) is usually covered with a PEI sheet from factory.

This can be removed or replaced using following instructions:
