Heatbed doesn't heat over 98C

Hello,

I recently bought a used mk2s (kit) and it prints PLA beautifully.
Only 2 things wrong with it:
1. There is small damage to the heatbed itself, a hole in the PEI with some fibers sticking from it - So I just print off-center.
2. I can't print PETG properly, I did the "Live Z" and the filament adheres to the bed at 83C, but when I print I get almost no adherence and very low quality print which detaches quickly.

Over the last few days I received multiple different errors such as "Thermal Runaway" and "Heatbed Error", and when I did the bed temp test, it never got past 98C - in a closed room, with no fan or AC, it got so hot the hotend fan started working(!).

I have the upgrade kit for the mk2.5 and all the extruder parts printed, but without the rambo enclosure and heatbed connector cover.

As far as troubleshooting goes, I checked the thermistor is attached in place, the heatbed leads are soldered in place, all connectors on the rambo are secured in place, I blew a hairdyrer on the heat and saw the temperature rise and I raised the power supply voltage to 12.48V.

What to do?

Can I install the mk52 heatbed without doing the whole mk2.5 upgrade? and without flashing new firmware?

How hot do you want your heatbed to get?
98° is seriously high.
The slightest whiff of air, not to mention a running fan will cause a temperature error.

Some folk insulate below the Heat bed.
Cork has been used.

Some folk have raised the power supply voltage a little

Others have used an enclosure. To reduce environmental effects

Mine runs about 12.7 volts. Haven't checked since I fitted New heated think I raised it when it was a mk1. With glass print surface.

When the power supply delivers 12v spot on it is to low for the mk42
12.5V worked fine for me on my orballo mk42 and the prusa mk42.

You can go up to 13.5 Volts by trimming your PSU, but this is not recommended !

Please do an PID-tuning on your bed and hotend too.

If you need such high printbed temperatures it is the better way to isolate your bed and printing in a housing.

I tried doing the bed PID, it didn't go over 98 C and so it couldn't finish the PID cycle.

As I wrote, the bed is already at 12.48V.

Yes sure. Mostly PETG. PLA only for Indoor parts. 85° for the 1st layers. All the others 75°. PETG sticks like hell to the PEI sheet.
