y axis isn't going home

I have been printing without issue for several years. then had an issue recently where for no obvious reason the printer wouldn't move towards zero consistently in the y-axis. would go all day away from zero but wouldn't consistently travel back towards zero. so I checked belt tension and it was loose. adjusted the tension and now it is printing fine in all axis except the whole print is shifted by a few mm in the y axis only. If I home the printer using the home button on OctoPrint the printer appears to home correctly. however during the 9 point bed check it always appears to be off just a bit on the y-axis. then when it homes itself, just prior to printing, it shutters and shakes more than just verifying home position, like it is trying to convince itself to go further than it can. once it starts printing it is now off by 7 or 8mm.  you can see in the pic that the waste strip is shifted into the print area and the print is shifted up in relation to where it is supposed to print. i can go through the bed calibration again and see if that fixes it but it's printing so well otherwise i'd really hate to mess with it.

Don't hate me for saying so, but I think this is a fantastic reason to 'mess' with your printer! 🙂

Have you checked the Y-axis belt mount on the bottom of the bed? Too tired to remember the official name of the belt holder, but there's some adjustability in the slots of the mount. It's worth checking to make sure that mount is located correctly with respect to your PINDA X-axis location. But it sounds like your printer is really trying to home that axis.
Could it be that Y-axis switch is failing? I believe I had that exact issue a year ago on my Mk2.5s, which resulted in me replacing the Y-axis switch/motor mount as well as the switch. Printing happily now.

Have you done an XYZ calibration?

my y-axis mount has no adjustability. it would be nice if it did. I've seen some created by a few people that do actually allow for some adjustability but mine is pretty crude. shove the belt in and cinch the motor up for tension. but that's just for tension no left right or other adjustability

fixed it. when i had tightened the belt , rather than cut the excess i used a very small zip tie to secure it. that was keeping it from fully retracting. UGGH

RECURRING ISSUE----RE: y axis isn't going home

thought i had fixed this. seems to be intermittent problem. the issue is it will go to zero but then will move some random distance back as it is going through the self check. i'm not sure how it is passing the self test since it's only moving over the same 3 points on the front line. it's acting as if it is hitting an obstruction. if it remove the belt from y-axis motor and reattach. it works again for several days. is it the motor? or the limit switch? it's like the motor doesn't have the strength to pull the plate back and it just stops.
